So I found a crooked river for a very good price and couldn't pass it up. I have to say, along with my Contego, I really like Benchmades. Not a fan of the plastic handles, but the Contego and Crooked River are amazing!

It does look like whoever sharpened the CR went a little crazy with the grinding... I'm inclined to ignore it and just use the knife and if it really bothers me send it to benchmade and get the blade replaced. What do you all think? Everything else about the knife is great! The blade is just 1/16th of an inch shorter than it should be haha! Anyway... Family picture!

Update : I am sending the knife to benchmade to have the blade replaced. Looking at other CRs a lot of metal was taken off this blade. Don't think it will be warranty, I'll have to pay, but that's OK, it will be worth it.

On a side note, I've also ordered a custom crooked river...maybe I should join knife nuts anonymous...

Well, it appears you already joined us. ;)

Let us know how the custom is, I've been itching for a 20CV mini and full size.

I suppose I have, now that I have over 40 knives in my collection. I don't even think my wife knows how many I have!

I've been wanting a custom CR for a while, and I love my m390 Contego, so 20cv was a no brainer. Thought about the cost and just decided to do it. I've got a little extra so why not splurge? Kids getting a playset soon too. Fun all around!

I'll be sure to show it off when it arrives!

Ditto! Sounds like you really are one of us!

One of us! One of us!

Whenever someone sees me pull out a knife to do something, someone goes "you like knives?" and my wife will say "oh, he's got a big case full of knives...". I sometimes question whether she actually opens it and looks to see how many, or just assumes I have a lot.

Good thing is she doesn't really care. The kid, bills, and food come first. After that no worries!

Adding to this whole Crooked River, custom, and more knives than she knows of... My wife gave me a custom CR for Christmas. And that added to a collection that is pushing 30 knives (not counting duplicates in the few cases where I've got them). The knife is amazing, but honestly, I rarely (for now) carry it because I know that with tax, it cost way more than I'm comfortable with. I'm sure that will subside given a bit more time.
This conversation is especially interesting because I've been thinking about adding "just one more" to my collection with a KW-exclusive Contego. Soc_monki, any comparison thoughts between the CR and Contego?
(And on the topic of having more knives than I practically need, I just picked up the KW-exclusive BM Grizzly Ridge... After backing off the tension on the pocket clip and polishing the bushings, oh my is it a nice knife. The blade size to handle length ratio is impressive, and the recurve blade is growing on me. For $79, it's a wonderful knife that I can carry and use with abandon. Love it.)

Comparing the CR and Contego is easy...theyre both large! haha! seriously though, the CR is a little lighter, slightly more blade, and is a bit more traditional. I look at it as a modern Buck 110. just a beautiful knife. the Contego is beautiful in its own way, but it is a brute. thicker blade stock, lots of jimping which doesnt bother me because im used to my Manix 2. Im sure either can handle anything you can dish out, but the Contego just looks like it wants all the abuse and keeps asking for more.

I think it would be a good addition to your collection. it has really taken over for me. I find it hard to NOT put it in my pocket daily. the m390 is great. been using it a lot and its still hair popping sharp. takes a great edge. after break in action is smooth as silk and no lock stick at all even after a hard deployment. I did have to tighten up the pivot once, but loctite has assured it wont come loose again.

when i get my custom i think its going to be REALLY hard to choose between which one gets pocket time. might just keep the custom for special occasions and use the standard CR for daily duty. just too many great knives, not enough time in the day!

also, you have an awesome wife! mine lets me have my hobbys, but doesnt really interfere. which is ok, because she has hers (like sewing) and that stuff is magic to me...haha!
