I'm finally moving to gas for forging. I was fortunate enough to find a fella in upstate NY who builds them at a good price. So I have a new 2 burner venturi gas forge now:D .Of course, now I have more questions:1) what pressure settings are used during forging and hardening? This fella blacksmiths only, no knives, but he said he sets the pressure guage at 4-6, but has put it up to 28 for the hell of it:eek: 2)Also, what kind of eye protection is needed? I have a Jim H. damascus video where he says "didinium" glasses are needed. I checked around and found clip-ons for $90.00,wow. Anyone have any other sources or ideas.

Where in Upstate NY is this guy? I have had no luck finding knifemakers or blacksmiths in this area.

Dan Cook is the fellas name, out of Corning, NY. Not exactly what I'd call upstate but, from what I'm told, anything above NYC is upstate.

Heck of a nice guy. Whit, send me an e-mail telling me where your at and I may be able to help you out.

i get forgeing temp at 4 to 5 psi and weld at 10 psi
but that will be just a guidline on homemade forges lotta variable stuff, play wqith it and see what happens.

didiyium just won't go away will it. get some cutting google lenses

I use a #2 some guys use a #5, not a problem anyway if you don't "stare " into the forge. Look at the work, look away, check back in a few minutes.

I have a double burner Forgemaster as you know, It says to set regulator to 10 psi for lighting, then I turn it down to between
5-6psi.
