Why is it that cutting paper and paper products dull a knife blade quicker than most anything else? This is a question I have pondered for years. Have received a variety of different answers so I figured I would ask the experts.

Not an expert, but think about what paper is: wood pulp, mashed together and bonded without regard for direction of the grain...

This is true. Cardboard is probably the hardest on a cutting edge because of the heavier material. Paper products are somewhat abrasive because they are made from wood. Cardboard is also a good medium for sharpening. With an added grit compound, it's great for maintaining an edge.

What I did not know that cardboard with the proper grit compound can be used as a sharpening medium. Very interesting information. Thanks again. Once again, this proves that Buck knives and the members of this forum are just GREAT!!!
