The Bob Timberlake customized Bucks are sold at the Bass Pro Shops. Various models are currently available. However, the 196 Mini Alpha is no longer available. I don't know what the dark coating on the blade is but it is most likely a Titanium oxide.
An interesting observation is the dark coating on the 196 blades is much darker than the other Timberlake custom bucks...it is jet black (like obsidian) all the others have more of a gray flint steel look. The Timberlake 196 in my avatar has a stag handle with a feather inlay. This year the Buck factory store offered a build out 196 using the left over blades from the BP LE and put Burl wood handles on them and sold them with a Timberlake sheath. I have no idea how many of these two variations were made and sold? Maybe Joe H can look this up for us!!!
I'll post a few old photo's of the Timberlake's that I have accumulated. Brandon can you post a photo or two of yours (I have not seen many of these 196's)?

Timberlake 192, 196, & 111 (note the 111 as sold from BP has a 110 blade)

ok the one i have is the build out....with the timberlake sheath...so is it 420hc steel?? and what about using it?? nothing rough but lil work here and there? just wasnt sure about sharpening
Yep 420HC and will sharpen just like any other blade. Just remember Brandon not many of these were made!!! However, that 196 will do whatever you want it to do...it will just look a bit sweeter doing it

i'll keep that in mind jb! i doubt i'll ever use it heavily, since i use my 196 with ats34 (rosewood) daily. now im out to find another display case! have a good one jb
