Just finished this one up last weekend and thought I'd share...

Blaze orange G10
Black Micarta highlights
Jeweled liners

This knife is big and funky for sure, the cool part about it is that when I take it out no one actually notices the 4" black blade :D ;)

Not sure if this will work or not....

Pictures loaded to BFC not showing up for some reason...

I loaded them on my web server but please let me know if you can't see them...

Looks good. I didn't know they even made blaze orange G10, that would be a good color for an outdoor knife.

Thanks guys!

I got the orange G10 from Halpern Titanium (www.halperntitanium.com), they have it in .125 and .25 but in limited quantities. I think it was a limited run or special order.

Geno, where did you get the natural color Micarta you used in my Slim Jim? I'd love to get some of that for a couple of upcoming projects :)

Thanks Chad. I'll check Halpren out. Had a request for something that would really stand out if dropped in weeds or leaves. This would be great. I've found a deal on the natural material...actually 3/8" thick G10, and will share. It's in a sheet so let me know size you need. Reply in Email if you you would like.

Sweet! I love the Persian design, that may be the nicest looking customizing job I've ever seen on an Emerson knife.
The orange handles look really great against all the black.

Maaaan... now I need a tac persian.

cpirt will you do tyhat to peoples knives for money????
or atleast explain how you put the circles intot he handle?

Thanks for the compliments guys! Not quite yet Geode - I still need to grind some steel ;)

Satin, yes - you need a Persian. EKI hit a home run with this nife IMO!

Dave, The blade and frame are a factory Emerson knife, I just made custom scales for it - so technically it's a customization. I believe Emerson uses Black-T which can be applied by many gun smiths if you have a blade to be coated.

Aaron, at the moment I'm not doing this for anyone - but maybe in the future. Just too many woodworing projects on my plate to commit to doing this for anyone else, sorry.

The inlays are black Micarta, they were cut using a plug cutting set in a drill press. To make the insert hole I use the corresponding Forstner bit to the plug. I do not drill the hole in the scale all of the way through so I have a better surface to set the plug to.

Plug cutters are designed for use in woodworking which is why I only make the plugs from Micarta. G-10 will probably burn the temper out of the cutter because it's more difficult to cut, so I would not try to do them with G-10. The Forstner bits are more suited for cutting G-10 so it's not big deal using them on G-10, but I would use Tin coated bits.

Once the plug is cut and the hole is drilled I either epoxy or super glue the plug in and then sand it flush to the scale.

In the future I plan to do some reverse plugs that will be counter sunk from the rear and add a nice texturing effect :)

Good luck!
Chad
