I got myself a Manix today and I am very impressed with the feel of the knife, it's size, and construction. I have one problem though. I went to switch the clip for LH carry and everyone of the screws stripped!!! I don't want to send the knife back because I just got the thing less than 2 hours ago. I dodn't even get to play with it yet!!!

Sal, can I have the screws sent to me without sending the knife in?

I assume you can. I had a problem with a Native barerel nut and they sent me one after I emailed them. No questions asked, or need to ship the knife in. I was impressed.

I had one of my Manix clip screws strip on me also. I wonder if Spyderco got a bad batch of screws, as it's not a problem I've ever had with them before.

So you know Sal, the threads were torn completley off the screw. It seems like maybe the screw wasn't properly hardened. Also, for anyone curious, I used a mini-screwdriver as I always do and I didn't over torque it.

A lot of my Spydies have the screw stripping probllem. Three Guntings and a Chinook 2 for me.

A similar thing just happened to me except the screws are fine but the threads in the screw holes are stripped. Just send me another knife so I can attach it to my good screws. Thanks.

This is a new one for me. As a lefty, I continuously change clips or remove them. A little turn with the help of LM Pulse pliers to get through the loc-tite and a micro screwdriver always does the trick and I've never encountered stripped screws. Specifically, I am hoping to get a Manix for LH carry, so I am curious are there more cases?

I sent an Email off to Spyderco yesterday and within 1/2 an hour I had a response that was most favorable. They will be sending me new screws at no charge. I really hope this was a bad batch of screws and just a fluke occurance. For a knife with multiple carry options I would have liked to see the use of the wire clip instead of the standard clip.

I had two of my Yojimbo clip screws strip and one was WAY too short.

Which email did you send to? I need a new set...

Jeez! You guys are scaring me! I'm just glad that I don't typically have much desire to change clip positions on my Spydercos!

I did have to take off the clip of my Military once a few months ago because I came down hard on it when I was on my skates. The impact actually compressed the clip against the handle! I had to take it off and bend it back into shape and then reinstall it. The screws didn't give me trouble; of course, I am very careful to not torque-up such tiny screws.

I am of the opinion that Spyderco needs to use screws larger than 2-56. On a heavy duty folder you should have heavy duty clip screws especially if you give the user the ability to switch clip positions. But that's just me. ;)

I sent an email to customerservice@spyderco.com.

Well, I just got to see the Manix in question last night. I won't comment on who got screwed, because it is one massive knife. I'm afraid if this becomes popular, the price of cars may go up, with so much steel being used for the blades it won't leave enough over for outside industry.

Did they strip on removal or when you went to screw them into the other clip holes?? Make sure those alternate clip positions are threaded, with all those holes maybe some were missed.

I sent my email and got a response over 2 weeks ago that new screws would be sent out and I have yet to see them. I can't carry my Manix without some new screws!!! Did someone forget? :(

I hope this turns out okay for you. Locating and putting a few screws in an envelope shouldn't take long at all.

is it me or the screws used by spyderco aren't really that good?

I personnally had problem with them and I see that I'm not the only one...

Maybe it would be possible to just get a list of the demensions of the screws on some of the problem knives so users could buy better quality screws from a third party source.

When I got my Manix, I immediately went to move the clip to the other side, and my screws were stripped as well. I emailed customer service and in about 10 days I got new screws in the mail. According to spyderco, they do locktite them in, and they tried to tell me that the screws only looked stripped, but weren't. When I tried to put then in the new holes, they would not tighten or hold. When I got the replacements, I did not use locktight, and was easy on the tightening. As far as I can see, only the liners are threaded. The G-10 slabs are not. That does not leave a lot of thread strength to hold.
Dave.

I snapped the head off my Dodo clip screw when changing it to left carry.
This was when unscrewing it, so there is no way I used too much force. This torx screw looked like the head wasn't part of the threaded piece, it was something like a "press fit". Kind of crimped together. I guess the locktite was just too much for it.

Spyderco sent me out a new screw right away, very quick :) .
The new one looks different, alot heavier construction. Maybe they are beginning to use more robust screws?
