I tried taking pics, but they look like crap, no good lighting. Anyway, it's my first Reeve fixed blade, and I do like it. I wanted a fixed blade for general use and for hiking and that's what I chose. I guess it was bc I like Reeve and it had the simplest design. I just wonder if something like a flat ground Ontario Rat or Busse something would have been more appropriate? What does everyone here think of the Reeve fixed blades in general?

 In my opinion, choosing a fixed blade Chris Reeve knife for carry and use is a sound decision. Other knives might be lighter and/or more corrosion resistant and/or less costly, but you can have confidence that a CRK will get the job done.

With that said, the 5.5" blade models (Shadow IV and Mountaineer II) have proven the most all around useful to me. Both are heavier than your Mountaineer I, but I find their somewhat longer blades and larger handles more useful for the chores I do.

Believe me : you can't go wrong with CRK fixed blades  I've been using a Shadow IV for years. Never let me down. Congrats for your purchase.

Well I know none of you abuse your knives, but give me some examples of what your one pieces have handled!

While I'm not a farmer, I do live on a farm and use my fixed blade CRKs for a variety of cutting tasks that are farm related. That includes cutting all kinds of different materials (fiber, plastics, rubber, cloth, hides, etc.). I also like to whittle soft, green wood (mostly for relaxation), and the CRKs excel at that.

I use it as a camp knife. I do everything from chopping wood to cooking, clearing the ground... I use it too to open boxes and to cut all kind of materials : plastic bags, electrical wires and so on. Excellent

I have a Tanto1, Shadow III, Green Beret 7" and 5.5" blades, and 2 Neil Roberts Warriors. Do I like CRK...You better believe it.
Their customer service is top notch! They are the sweetist, friendleist, sounding customer service gals I have yet to encounter.

After reading these responses and some other threads, I'm very confident in my choice. I can't wait to get out and use this thing, and then get a bigger one!
