got this mostly for trail running, but would be equally at home for short day hikes/x-country skiing/snowshoeing

It's a Osprey Talon 4 lumbar pack. It has a very nice layout- two pretty roomy belt pockets- I carry "food" (gels/blocks) in one, the other goes my cell phone, sunscreen and some anti-chaff; it comes w/ two 20 oz bottles that are angled for easier retrieval- also has a unique shock cord setup to keep them in and release them- I use one w/ water, the other w/ Gatorade or Perpetuem depending on the length of run

the main pouch is divided into two- a smaller flatter one that I keep my fak, headlamp, fire kit, TP, water purification tabs and a neck lanyard w/ knife, photon light & whistle; in the main pouch goes a AMK bivy, AMK heatsheet, hank of Spectra line, beanie, gloves, buf, windshirt and a couple of clif bars

the front of the pack has straps (and I added some shock cord too) so I can secure a insulating layer or raingear

I also attached a small Osprey pouch to the belt to carry my small point and shoot

the belt is very comfy (like all Osprey packs that I've tried) and easy to adjust; the pack rides nicely- little to no bounce (if I get any bounce a slight adjustment on my hips or a slight tightening of the belt cures it)

pack is pretty light at 10.8 oz, loaded out right at 5 lbs, half that being water

I was looking at one of those a few weeks ago. Great choice Mt Warden. How do you like the bottles?

they aren't overly fancy, but they do fit good in the hand, don't leak and w/ the quick top stop you can use them one handed no problem :)- 22 oz/bottle so I can generally eek out a 2-2.5 hour run w/ them

mainly that your upper body is freed up, a lumbar pack can only carry so much though- for winter day hiking and even very long day hikes a pack is going to be better suited imo

looks like my Mountainsmith Blaze lumbar pack, nice set up. I have used mine for 12 miler's in the local state parks in decent weather.
