Hello all! I just want to let you know that my lady friend is amazing! Why? Because she bought a Vulcan for me for Valentine's Day!

Despite mine (and others) opinions of SOG's 2010 lineup, I still like these Seki folders. Like my Night Vision, this Vulcan is one of the smoothest folders I have! I don't have time now, but I'll post a picture or two later.

I have all of the SOG Seiki folders but the Vulcan is the one I edc. I don't get why this knife is not popular on the general forums. There are not many 3.5" blades of this quality with this ergonomic of a handle. What a great gift!

Hang onto that one. The knife, and the girl.

Definitely yes to both!

On a side note, I realized that the photo sharing website I have an account at (photobucket) has had some virus issues recently, so I'm going to have to find another place to setup an account at before I post any pictures here.

Alright, I set up a new photo account so hopefully this works! Here it is:

Sorry, not the best pictures. Hopefully I'll get some better ones soon!

Hi dl351 -

Nice knife - congrats! That is a good girl there - nice to have one that thinks about your interests.

Thanks for the pics - it shows off the nice grind very well.

best regards -

Is that the full size or the mini? If its the full size could you take a picture of it next to something like a dollar bill? I'd like to see how much bigger it is compared to the mini.

Blueblur, sorry for the delay, but here's a picture to get a better idea of the size. I hope it helps.

Thanks dl, its hard to get a feel for it on the SOG site.

The more I carry mine the more I love it.

I'm lovin mine too! I just took in one on trade (actually the mini ), but what a beauty, and has a nice feel too.

I'm really liking this knife! I'm used to carrying folders with 3.5" to 4" blades, so this one doesn't seem overly large. Also, the clip is great for deep pocket carry! As I said earlier, like my Night Vision, this is one of the smoothest opening knives I own! I've got some other nice folders, but none of them operate as smoothly as these SOG axis locks!

A note on the handles: I was skeptical about the use of Zytel, but now that I own this and have thoroughly examined the knife, I understand how making these handles out of G10 could be very costly. The contours of the handles would be expensive to machine out of G10. If they were slab handles, maybe G10 wouldn't be so expensive, but the Vulcan has some nice contours to the handles.

Based on this knife, I'm a bit excited for the Pendulum to be released!

The Vulcan and Mini-Vulcan are great knives. I don't know why they aren't more popular. Maybe it is the price perhaps.

I don't know, but they can be found for $90 to $100, which isn't bad for a folder with a VG10 blade. Besides that, I love the arc lock!

Out of the 4 SOG knives that I own my Mini Vulcan is probably my favorite :thumbup:

Other than the shape and material of the blade, is there any difference between the Vulcan VL-02 and VL-04? I am trying to decide between the two mini Vulcans and cannot see any other differences.

Also, I am wondering why the VL-02s are consistently cheaper when they seem to have the better blade.

Thanks,

TxKahr

I think some might argue that the VL-04 has a better blade because it is San Mai steel. It's more work to make the San Mai steel because it is a VG-10 core steel with 420 J2 laminated to the outside of it. You still get the benefit of the VG-10 in edge holding, but the blade is supposedly tougher due to the more flexible 420 J2 outer layers. Whether or not there is a practical difference between the two blades is questionable, but the line from the laminated steel looks pretty cool!
