My girlfriend just bought it and sent it to me in the mail!

I just thought I'd post this because no one ever posts bragging about their new SAK, esp. not one as humble as a Super Tinker. There have been a few threads lately about Swiss Army knives, but they are kind of like orphans around here. Everybody has at least one, but no one gets excited about them.

One cool aspect of SAKs is that they are almost never construed as a weapon. The larger ones cause some confusion when you get them out. Take the Adventurer, for instance. If it were a Cold Steel, people would be astounded that I could bring it to work. (I was in the office area...) But since it is a SAK, people are confused. It is a big enough knife that people feel they should be threatened. But then they see the Swiss Army color and symbol and are left scratching their heads. All I got was "That's kind of big for a Swiss Army Knife, isn't it?" It's almost like they feel like they should feel threatened, but when they see the cross and the red, it blows everything.

To those of you who own lockback SAKs, I encourage you to try it, it is pretty funny. Bring that baby out, snap open that huge (for a SAK) blade and make sure the cross is showing. Then just watch for the expression on their faces. It is priceless. (It works better with the red models)

Anyhow, no matter what else I'm carrying, I always have a SAK on me. It ends up getting use often, on account of the other tools. Lately it has been a SA Explorer and a Spyderco Delica. Now, it will be the Super Tinker and Delica, as the Explorer is one layer too thick for comfortable pocket carry.

I have an old SAK that has gotten much use over the years but still looks brand new... I love it. I received a SAK Workchamp at Christmas, but it's almost too much "toolage" to deal with. I think you're right though that SAKs are a sort of hybrid tool that some find difficult to classify.

Good EDC combo you have there. ;) I got my Delica and Soldier in the pockets right now. Can't go wrong with a one-hander and a SAK teamed up.

Super Tinker is a nice model:

It's basically the Climber with the Phillips (corkscrew replacement) driver -

There is a thinner version of this with almost all the features -
the Compact:

compact knife US model #54941
size:91 mm | 3 1/2 inch
Large blade
Scissors
Hook
Combo Tool: Bottle opener with can opener, wire stripper and large screwdriver
Mini screwdriver
Corkscrew
Straight pin
Ball point pen
Tweezers
Key ring
Toothpick

But I don't think there is a version with the Phillips on the back.

That Compact is really neat. Looks like an ideal edc. I still can't figure out what that little hook is for?

The hook has many purposes. I saw someone at the ice skating rink using it to make the laces on there skates extra tight. Also you can use it to carry packages tied up with string. Or as a marlin spike. Many many uses.

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the information. It's amazing how well thought out the tools on these SAK's are, and there are more models that you can shake a stick at.

Who says nobody gets excited about a new SAK? I just added an Electrician to my line up and couldn't be happier :D .
One of my most frequent combos is a V-nox Settler and CRK small Sebenza.

I agree SAKs (specifically V'nox) are excellent knives. They offer a great quality to cost ratio. I recently bought a Tinker and a silver Alox Bantam. I'm quite pleased with both. My Bantam or my Alox Pocket Pal are often paired with one of my small Sebbies. They make a fine EDC combo.

have had a SAK which looks like the tinker pictured for over 20 yrs, not a single problem(other than one lost toothpick), gave it to my wife last X-mas and got me a ranger, really like it, a little bigger, but both are great knives.
