Something came in the mail from Ken today , 1/2 of my latest order.

Tomo Naguras for all my in stock , and new Jnats , plus some special/unique Nagura stones.

Brand new Jnats for the EP. we will go into more detail shortly.

0.015u Polycrystalline , 1.2million grit. Don't mind the written label ,its what inside that counts.

Poly/Alumnia Blend Test Compound. This 0.5u compound contains both Poly Diamond and AlOX abrasive. We are going to be doing testing to see if it offers any advantages over single blend solutions.

Green Brick of joy and 8k snow white. Heard good things , just wanted to try em out. Cheap so I threw em on the pile.

Some misc sticks , for serrations and hard to reach areas.

Theres also some coarser CBN (30u and 45u) , but those pictures didn't transfer off of my phone.

That is a fascinating package. I like to think of myself as a pretty fair sharpener (who readily bows down to many represented here). You seem to be at such a level. I'm not worthy!

What is that first picture of? Natural Japanese stones? They look to be unfinished? Seconds? Remnants? Raw materials? I ask because I am fascinated.

Looks like i waited too long to stake claims to that idea :P o well. Keep us updated? I started thinking about this when i heard of people loading their stones with diamond sprays and the like. It'll be interesting to see if the different breakdown rates makes a big difference. Might be more noticeable with a SiC/AlO combo.

I would recommend soaking the Snow White 8K for a couple of minutes if you want it to cut faster and not glaze up as much. On the other hand, just letting water sit on it for a few minutes, and re-wetting it every so often, allows it to polish a bit more than if you soak it.

Those are various Nagura stones. The whole point of using JNats its to raise a mud , and then break it down , so that the abrasive self refines. Not something we can do with synthetic stones. These small pieces of stone are rubbed against the main stone in order to speed up the process. Or change the way a stone performs.

So... If you hadn't labeled it, I would have thought the first pic to be a tub of miscellaneous rocks (which it is in a way). Quite the load of stones there. Sounds like you might need to find some friends who need sharp knives to test them out on.

I work in the oil & gas industry here in Northern Alberta. I specialize in cleaning Industrial Tanks and Vessels used for oil & gas processing.

Sadden, thanks for answering my post. I was of course being humorous as you know. It just goes to show the gentleman that you must be. Beautiful collection!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for all the compliments guys. Now lets go into more detail with the Jnats ,

Here we have a Hideriyama , a hard polishing stone , very fine.

This is a Nakayama Iromono , the current prize of my collection. A very hard polisher , perfect for straights. Becoming an increasingly rare stone. Ken was kind enough to save the powder from cutting the Tomo so I have that to play with as well.

This is a 2x6 Iyoto , a soft nagura stone. Nakado on its own.

Khozuke , Medium hard Nakado stone.

Tsushima stone. This stone is from an underwater mine located between Japan and North Korea , it was mined out in 1983. Hard Nagura stone.

Hakka Suita , a soft polishing stone

Heres a better picture from Ken :)

Here is a Jokeji "smokey" nagura , this stone smoked similar to meat smoking , in order to change its characteristics. It is only done during certain times of the year.

A better picture from Ken , look at the beautifull grain structure that really comes out when wet. I believe he has a few more of these available.

All cleaned up and put away , I had to go buy a little Tupperware for all the Nagura stones :S
