Got a PM3 but mistake and don't like it!

Guess I should give my two cents though it's not worth much. The PM3 is too small. I feel like little miss muffit or something, but the size of the PM3 really really bothered me. Instead of living with my mistake and keeping the PM3 because it was a cool knife, I got steamed because there are far better knives in this price range at or under 2''.

Congrats to all the people living in countries or states that need a blade this small because now you can EDC a PM series, but it doesn't compare. Size it's everything in the blade world because as we know all you need is half a dime's length worth of a blade to do most daily tasks, but to me I was bothered. This especially comes after I got a bugout. What oh what will happen to the Manix in its next iteration.

Hello. For you, the Para 3 is too small. For other folks, it's just right. I'm sure there are also folks out there who consider it too big. Imagine that! ;) Fortunately for everyone, the PM2 and Military aren't going anywhere so there are still those and plenty of other options for the folks who like bigger knives.

Me, I don't need a knife with a blade 3" or less for legal reasons, but that's still the size I prefer, and that's all it is - personal preference. Case in point: I love the Native. The Shaman is too big for me, but plenty of folks love the Shaman and I can still enjoy the Native; no harm, no foul. For folks who think the Native is too big, we now have a Lil' Native. If there is a smaller version of the Manix made, it seems unlikely that the current Manix or Manix XL would be discontinued, so there's no reason for folks who prefer those models to be concerned.

Personally, I don't see how more options is a bad thing. The Para 3 is too small for you. Now you know and can make future knife purchases accordingly with that knowledge in mind. Rock on and good luck with your future knife shopping!

The PM3 is a great option for those who prefer smaller blades. The PM2 is a great option for those who prefer larger blades. It's all about variety and choices.

Exactly, different strokes for different folks. I own variants of both and they are both awesome. I typically like and carry smaller knifes so I find my PM2's to be weekend/outdoor knives and the Para 3 more of a EDC office carry.

Of all my Military family models (regular millie, PM, PM2, and PM3) I like the PM3 the best. It just fits my needs and my hands the best of all of those. You may have different preferences, and that's fine. One of the beauties of this family is that there is a size for just about anyone's needs or preferences.

OP , if you upgrade your membership then you could sell your unwanted PM3 here on the exchange. I'm sure a lot of people would be interested.

I happen to agree with this initial post. The PM2 is a great size for edc. To me like the Delica the PM3 just has too small of a blade for my liking. I own a Delica (which I never carry) but did not however make the mistake of buying a PM3.

all relative. i find it odd for anyone to call a pm2 too big. weird to me as i consider it a smaller folder. course i live where i can carry anything i want legally. so maybe im spoiled not having to compromise and get used to small folders. that said i keep a spyderco zdp189 ladybug on my keychain and do use it sometimes for simple cutting tasks i could just do with my hands and dont need a knife such as for opening boxes.

its great spyderco makes sizes to cover about everyones likes. just wish they made a few more larger folders 4" +

Strokes n folks n stuff. I'm neckers first, everything follows. My 940-1 and mini ritter (sorry if these are blasphemist unmentionables here) are very popular models, but both are too small for me. I do carry knives that size, but pretty much just traditionals.

Now you have an excuse to buy another knife ;)

If there was one perfect knife, we would all own one, and we wouldn't need a forum. go gold for a year, sell a few, life goes on. the angst of a knife not being what you want it is part and parcel of the hobby, so no worries there, the forum is here for those thoughts. Just don't let that get in your way of your enjoyment.

And yes 5x5 we know you don't like a lot of things.

I prefer larger folders too. A 4" blade is about perfect for me. That's why the Military is my ideal choice. More specifucslly , the S90V/CF/Ti Military. Outstanding knife.

I find the PM2 slightly on the smaller side. And the PM3 is just minuscule and doesn't appeal to me in be least.

The one thing that's kept me away from a pm3 is just the looks. I think it's fugly and too short and chunky looking. I had a pm2 and loved it though.

This is why bladeforums needs a dislike button.
That's the last thing BF needs. We definitely need a puke emoji though, for comments and knife 'Designs'. I'd type 'atSpark' but I'm sure he's got better things to do. :D

ETA: I accidentally notified Spark! Seriousky lol. Now this whole posf earned its own puke emoji.

When the Para 3 was announced, I got drunk on the 3 kool-aid. I waited and waited in anticipation for the little brother/sister to the venerable PM2. After what seemed like years of waiting for the “perfect” little big knife, I was completely disappointed when it did finally arrive. So, like all of my previous knife let downs or mood changes (coated blades, partially serrated blades, etc.) I posted it on the exchange and made the day for the next knife nut who got a 99% new knife for a good deal. That, my fellow enthusiasts, is one of the great benefits of this extravagant hobby; the excitement, anticipation, flipping a knife to fund the next great sharp thing. It is all about preference and taste, there is no right or wrong, well except Bear Grylls knives, those are all wrong.

My point is buy, trade, sell, collect, use, or don’t use; sharp things are a great hobby and a great way to keep money out of the bank.

In other news, for those who found the Para 3 lacking, check out the Lil’ Native compression lock. For me, it was everything I was anticipating the 3 to be and more. It fills my want for that knife that is larger, more stout than the Dragonfly 2, smaller and more compact than the PM2 or the Native. I highly recommend the Lil’ Native.

Stay sharp!

Because pictures make posts better...

I like using my Para 3 only if I choke up on the blade. It is too small for my smallish hand fully on the scales.

It’s not my favourite knife, but I carry it a lot.

The only negative IMO is the clip placement. It sucks. I replaced the clip with a deep carry Ti clip and it made a huge difference.

I dunno about that. I bought a PM 2 and a Para 3 together just before Christmas. I like both knives, as they are basically the same knife, just that the Para 3 is shorter. Both knives are identical from the spydy hole down to the first standoff (3/4 of the length of the PM2). So the Para 3 is a half inch shorter blade and roughly 5/8 shorter handle. However, I do prefer the ergonomics of the shorter handle (fits my hand better) so I prefer the Para 3, as the PM 2 handle feels too butt heavy and I get the feeling it wants to slide down out of my hand. Of course it wouldn't do that as the grip is too good to slide out.

I like both knives and am glad that at least I have a Spyderco in my (very small) collection. I use both fairly equally, but I must admit, I do prefer the Para 3. Oh and as far as the pocket clip is concerned, they both stick out of my pocket roughly the same amount. I have deep carry clips on all my BM's so I find both my Spyderco's need after market deep carry clips.

Hey, I have a Bear Grylls Compact Scout Knife I bought in 2010 or so ( somewhere in a drawer, I think). I used it at work to cut open the sides of beef boxes and such. Great knife, well except the 1/2 inch of side to side blade play and the vertical blade play I got after a couple of years.... I wonder if they have a "forever" warranty?
