Is there anyway to polish scratches out of a Flash II blade? Picked one up at a local garage sale in resonably good condition, but the blade is scratched. Looks like fine scratches, like someone tried to clean it with a brillo pad. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Richard, If the scratches are too deep for polish to remove, try a 600 or finer grit sand paper with oil and work up and down, from top to bottom of blade, moving the whole length of blade, and moving just a little bit at a time.

This will result in sand paper lines that all run in the same direction and looks really good, almost like factory "satin finish" grind lines. Takes a little elbow grease but works well. A tiny piece under index finger is all you need.

Be careful of sharp blade while doing this and support blade well underneath.

Robbie,
I thought you would have some input on this topic, after all aren't you the master of keeping knives shiny and clean.:p....;)

Yes, I have been accused of shining blades while wearing white socks on my hands and a hanky over my face to cut down on moisture. :(

The truth is............it's all true. I am a shiner and a polisher of most blades I own, don't know why, but I think it has something to do with working on knives all those years and customizing, and refurbishing.

I do use my Revolvers and a few other SOGs all the time, but almost all others I have put up for a rainy day. :(

Don't worry robbie, I do the same thing... to a degree:p... it must be that accursed human nature of mine.;)

P.S. you customize your SOGs ? sounds cool.

Yes, some of them, but many other brands/types over the years, mostly file work, stag inlays, etc.

Filed my Flash II blade in a vine pattern and smoothed the action inside and it is beautiful now.

WOW, I would love to see some pictures of that.

Yes, I have no way to show them, I need to get a scanner someday, maybe soon and it should work.

There have been a zillion things I have wanted to show people but never had a way yet. I started to mail my Flash to Wildmanh one time and get him to post pics of it, but figured it would be too much trouble.

You should get yourself a nice digital camera. That way you won't need to buy any film or get it developed.

Your right again, (my wife wants one) I've been putting that off too......... :D

I guess I am a little old fashioned when it comes to all this new stuff, I just got a computer a few years ago.

Maybe by Christmas I will have some of that stuff, then I'll need to learn to use it all, that's another story

I wouldn't worry about it being too difficult, I actually find a standard camera to be more of a challenge.;)

Well, it's almost finished. Following your advice, I was able to remove most of the fine scratches with the wheel cleaner/polish. Then with very fine sandpaper and good old 3in1 oil, started working the entire blade to remove the rest of the scratches. One side done, and almost done with the other. And ONLY one cut finger so far. Not bad for a rookie. Again, thanks for the info and advice. :p

Richard, sounds great, just one finger, thats really great ! :D

Boy, I can smell that 3 in 1 all the over here, it works great but sure does smell.

Now that knife is yours forever, you put your personal touches on it and it will always be your buddy................

Planning on making it my EDC for as long as I can carry one. And you are right about the smell of 3in1. Wife makes me do the work in the garage with the door closed. She cannot understand how I can work with "that smell". I guess it's a "man" thing. :D

Yes it is a man thing.

I really don't care for the smell of 3 in 1, but I love the smell of Hoppes gun solvent........reminds me of the good ole days. :D
