IM MISSING WHOLE CHUNKS OF EDGE!!! Seriously, what an eye opening experience. Honestly, on the knives that were missing huge gaps of edge, it wasn't a great surprise. They are cheaper knives that get used hard and put up wet (sometimes for real haha). Micro-chipping is rampant!! But then again I took a peep at some of my safe queens and got an idea of what an edge should look like. My new CRK Umnum's is a thing of beauty, so friggin' consistent on the edge, 0 scratching. Anyhow, just had to share the news of my new toy. I had read on here as well as other places in numerous posts that these were a handy tool, indeed they are!!!

I just got a jeweler's loupe with 10x and 20x lenses at the swap meet for $10. It's a neat little toy.

Is this the illuminated microscope, with 60 - 100x magnification, or the three lens magnifier with 5x, 10x, 15 magnfication?

60-100. It helps. I played around with an older beater knife tonight that has always been a pain to sharpen (SOG Auto-Clip, no idea on the steel but circa bout 1999-2000ish). Spent some time with it, and even with my rudimentary current sharpening setup managed to pull it around nicely. Being able to see, sure-nuff up close and personal like, when you have multiple bevels in places they shouldn't be, it was a big help. Especially on a knife like this one, that its been a good long while since it was properly aligned, too many quicky sharpenings on whatever random stone or rod was handy. Also, being able to watch the blades through the grit progressions is very helpful. For $13, it'll do nicely.

Take a look at the bionicam, it can go to 400x and takes picture and video.

Lol dang. Ok now its suddenly not all that cool anymore. 400x sounds a lot better. This site costs me so much money.
