I got a Large 21 from my fiancee over the weekend. I had been looking at them for a while but hadn't taken the plunge. So, getting it as a gift made it very cool and made me stop hesitating.

First off, the whole knife is very understated. No flash, pomp, or circumstance. It just seems to beg to be used. At the same time, it is a bit underwhelming. However, after disassembling it to remove the lanyard and putting it back together and having the Sebenza lock up perfectly and still be silky smooth, you really appreciate the level of craftsmanship involved. I have disassembled other knives and they never really seemed to go back together as perfectly.

Ergonomically, the knife is extremely well thought out and is a joy to use. Which is a bit of a surprise to me for such a large knife.

My one complaint is that it didn't come as sharp as I would have expected. It had trouble slicing paper. However, a quick touch up on the Sharp Maker and it's very, very sharp. Easily removes hair and slices very well.

All in all, I can understand the draw of the Sebenza. I might look at getting one with inlays. I suppose the sickness has begun...

Congratulations! Very nice of her, for certain! You do know that pix are required, right? I'm pretty sure it's in the rules!

My GF gifted this one to me last year for my birthday (of course, it's my most prized Sebbie):

That is odd... all the new sebenza's I have ever gotten have been some of the sharpest factory knives I have seen. Belive me.. use it for 2 weeks and then go back to your best benchamdes, spyderco's, or kershaws.. they will have somehow grown a little uglier then you can remember. It is an odd phenomenon, the sebenza phenomenon.

Here' s a quick picture. I was surprised about the relative lack of sharpness. It's fine now and made easy work of some cardboard boxes.

I have 2 small sebenzas. My first 2 (Small cgg and a small 21) were barely shaving sharp out of the box. My insingo was what I would call acceptable, shaves cleanly.

I still find that Spyderco's edges are the best I've seen out of the box, I've had a few that came hair whittling sharp.

Congrats on your seb and the gf that understands your addiction! Both sound like keepers to me.

Wow gorgeous picture!
I'm seriously fond of the positioning of the Seb and the lighting just works!

Good luck with your new illness! :D

that and the dogpaws are probably the only 2 graphics id consider on a sebbie.
