I got a Rob Simonich D2 pikuni in the mail this week. It is a very sweet little knife. This was NIB from a fellow forumite, who ordered the knife by name but it was not the knife he had wanted. So he sold it to me. As stated earlier, the blade steel is D2 and it has carbon fiber handles. Fit and finish are flawless. This knife is SHARP. It will shave hair with no effort. I think the hair just runs scared. The carbon fiber concealex sheath is very well done. I only really have one complaint... Not really a compaint, just a personal preference. The belt loop with the sheath is totally enclosed, instead of "g" or "j" style clip. I think this would fully complete the package, as this style clip allows you to put on and remove the knife without taking off the belt. It's not really necessary, I just feel that style of clip is more versatile and would compliment that sheath really well. Overall, I am very very pleased with the knife. I am glad I decided to purchase it.

Where's the pic?
You are lucky all the way around aren't you!
I didn't know how small those were till I saw the one pic of Mike Turber showing his cut, the knife in that pic looked to be very handy indeed!
Congrats!

Gary,
Pic will be coming shortly. I am having problems with my scanner software. Hopefully I can get it taken care of and posted later tonight. It is a really nice, but small knife. Perfect for cross-draw IWB carry. Handy for comfortable daily carry and a good little utility knife. Gonna try to work on my scanner now

Jeremy, thanks for all the compliments, glad you like the knife. I have tried those G clips and just plain dont like them, to me they look cheap and if you can snap something on it will certainly be able to snap off, at the time you dont want it too! Just my opinion of course!

Gary, that knife shown with Turbers slice isnt a Pikuni, but a smaller version called the Nighthawk. Mike got one of the proto's, and Knife Art is getting 25 of them. The Pikuni is bigger.

Yeah Gary, know the post! I see where it confuses folks. Thats the only reason I mentioed it! That finger does look nasty!

Jeremy, the Pikuni is an awesome little knife. I hope you enjoy it. Does yours have the mosaic pin? I ordered one from Les Robertson last month, and am eagerly awaiting it's arrival. I understand he's still waiting for a delivery from Rob. I can't wait to get my hands on this baby!

Jeremy - congrats on your recent acquisition. The Pikuni is my favorite small fixed blade and it has become my daily carry piece. It has the most comfortable handle I have come across on a fixed blade of that relative size. You'll definitely get a lot of use out of it for sure. Hurry up and post the pic

Hmmmm.... there must be something wrong with my hands. I have several of Rob knives, or copies thereof (Talon, REKAT Pikuni, custom Cetan Tanto), and the REKAT Pikuni is the ONE that I can't seem to get comfortable with. With the handle shaped like it is, any work with it that requires any effort results in an uncomfortable hot spot on my little finger. If I do a grip with my little finger out (like drinking at an English tea?), I don't have the control that I want. Hard to believe that I can get that much extra control just from using the fourth finger, but that is the case. The aft end of it literally gets in the way. I started grinding down the handle to correct it, but can't go far enough without grinding into the lanyard hole. So, I guess I'm going to end up just grinding the entire exposed pommel away.

Now, I'm not criticizing REKAT's work or Rob's design. I'm just saying that it doesn't work for all people. And it has become obvious to me that no "three-finger grip" design is going to work for me. Just another perspective.

Here's a link to a review I put up in Dec. of the two Pikunis and the Nighthawk by Rob I own - FYI. Glad you like yours - they are great users and perfect for EDC. I think you will find the more you use it the more you will like it. I'm going to try to get pictures of mine up soon. Plus Rob is not only a great maker but an incredibly nice guy & super to work with.

Gus, THAT is a nice knife,

and is a handle shape totally different from the REKAT Pikuni. That would probably work wonderfully!
