Looking forward to adding to my humble collection. The model with the scissors and pliers has been with me for 28 years

The Recruit is a nice little knife. It was my first real SAK that my dad got me for my 12th or 13th birthday. Plus its one of the cheapest models out there so its a lot of bang for your buck. I know I've seen them at Meijer for as low as $13 and a little more everywhere else.

I have a huge soft spot in my heart for the smooth back SAK's. Recruit, Bantam, Wenger SI and Victorinox pioneer. LOve 'em.

Great little knife! I have an old Recruit on my nightstand for tweezers, nail cleaning and opening the odd piece of mail. I don't really carry/use 84mm SAKs much because with my RA, I find the larger (91mm and up) knives are just easier to use!

The Recruit is one of my favorites. Such a great knife for so little money. And a handy little knife too. Mine was 12 bucks ordered online and delivered to the local big box store ubiquitous to all locales. That's value!

I consider the Recruit to be a gateway drug to SAKs with more layers, tools and utility. Its a very slippery slope, and few are able to avoid it. But for a guy who likes simplicity and doesn't "need" scissors, etc., the Recruit rocks.

Ironically the very first SAK I ever won was also a Recruit. I didn't know anything about them at the time, I just saw what I assumed was a good deal.

And now I think I know why they're called Recruits. Once you get one you'll find yourself recruited into the association of SAK addicts.

If you guys don't stop talking about this, I fear that I'm going to buy one.

I received 2 of them in the mail just over a week ago. I took one of them and dulled the edges with sandpaper and rounded the blade points a little with a bench grinder and then presented it as a gift to my little boy. He was so excited to get it and thinks it is cool we both have the same knife. I have been carrying mine everyday since it arrived and think it is a great little knife. Very comfortable to carry, not expensive and is versatile. I think I have rediscovered SAKs after not carrying for several years.

I personally think the Recruit has everything you need on an SAK and nothing you don't. I've had one since I was 14 or 15. You made a good choice. Too many people feel they're above a SAK unfortunately.

Got it! The scales have 2 hairline cracks and the pen blade is slightly bent at the tip but the knife is solid. Just sharpened and polished the edge. It will pop hairs. May try my hand at some replacement scales or try to source some Cellidor replacements:
