I finally found one and decided that now was as good a time as ever to get it. Especially after seeing all the great pics from firebert and I forgot the other persons name, but he had great pics also! I will have by Saturday, maybe Friday. The last two autos I had were not to my expectations, not by a longshot. But after reading what I could find, it looks like the 0650 will definately NOT be a dissappointment. I'm really looking forward to a solid feeling folder with excellent fit and finish, and no bladeplay showing up at my house this weekend! Of course I'll be here to write up my first impression.

Jack, here's some pictures for you :D

Yeah, for the price of about three ZT 03xx's, I can buy the lens I've been lusting over. :(

"It's verry nice..." (Pythonesque French accent) :)

:( Seems that I jumped too quick. It's a long story but here it is. Back in November I had posted that I was going to get custom Pat Crawford Kasper folder. This is the Kasper Commemorative folder. As things worked out I was not able to get it, but I had put down a deposit on it. As it turned out I needed to go ahead and pay it off or be in danger of losing that deposit. I only found this out yesterday, so I had to nix the ZT0650ST for now, but I do have a Crawford Kasper coming tomorrow, and commemrotive or not, it will become an edc due to its excellent design, and the fact that it is my all time favorite folder design! So forgive me for not going ahead and getting the ZT, but there is always next month and my desire for one has not gone away!!

Just try and follow along:confused::confused::). As things ended up the store I bought from did not get my email about holding up on buying the 0650, and have charged my card and sent the knife out with a delivery date of tomorrow (1-27-09). So, I guess I do have a ZT0650ST on the way!!:thumbup: Course it means bread and water for the next couple of weeks, but that's better than nothing, much better than those awful Ramen Noodles!:thumbdn::thumbdn: Makes me sick just thinking about them. Well, two or three weeks with bread and water means that maybe I'll lose some of my fat azz and make the poster at the General forum not so embarrassed about me being a knife collector!;):)

congrats on your 0650st!:) try adding tabasco to your noodles! :D looking forward to seeing your review!

A review will definately be forthcoming. Yep, sometimes fate just intervenes, and thats all I can say! On another matter, the Crawford Kasper is a heck of a folder, solid as a steel safe door, and a buttery smooth action, everything I could ask for in my edc. Yet, I still have the ZT0200 in my pocket, after a couple days carry of the Kasper. I do not want to come off as a jerk, but the 0200 looks and feels as well made as the Kasper! In fact it has a more solid feel probably due to the steel liners and the shaped grips. Not that I'm afraid to carry it, the Kasper, due to its cost, the simple fact is that the ZT0200 has the better feel, at least to me!

Came in yesterday afternoon. It is everything I expected a ZT branded auto to be. The feel of the knife in hand is very solid, not as heavy as my 0200, but heavy enough to let you know you have a solid knife in your hand. Let me break it down, and in my opinion, which may not be yours:D:

HANDLE

First thing I noticed was the way the G-10 handles were finished. Real fine checkering, and I really like it. Not rough like the MUDD, but will still give you a great hold. I would have liked to have seen the MUDD style pocket clip fitted to this knife as it would allow the knife to set deeper in the pocket, as it is about 1/2" of handle is above the pocket. It is not a deal breaker though as it still is hard to notice unless you are looking for it. I did notice that the right side aluminum frame is about twice as thick as the left frame. Normally something like that would have bugged me, being as anal as I am, but I liked this knife so much that it dosen't even play a part in my decision. I'm sure it is that way for a reason, I just don't know that reason. The knife has an excellent feel in hand for me.

BLADE

Sorta a drop point clip style blade. Point is lined up about midways in relation to the handle and has good point control. Blade is cut from .125" stock and is very sharp out of the box. I don't really care for the serrations, but at least they don't take up much of the blade. The DLC finish is evenly done and has an excellent look to it, as you would expect from the ZT folks!

ACTION

Before recieving this knife I had read about the Crossfire operating system. Until I got the knife in my hands I was thinking that the two movements needed to open the knife were one movement too much. Boy was I wrong! I love how this thing operates, and it didn't take but one try to get the hang of it. As someone else mentioned, there is a nice little click when engaging it into the safe position and there should not be a problem with it accidently engaging or disengaging. Out of the box there was just the tiniest amount of lateral play, and I do mean tiny. I tightened it up just a smidge:), and that took care of it. The blade does not fly out of the handle like a MT or Dalton does, probably more like a BM Axis auto, but I would rather have it this way as it will not wear as fast and will not make as much noise. Make no mistake though as the blade has no problem engaging!!

All in all I really like the 0650. I currently have it in my pocket and have been playing with it a little when no one is around or when I go to the bathroom, and man does it ever feel good in my hand! The knife does also!!:D;)

It's a definate keeper.:):thumbup::thumbup:

Good to see it finally came.

The handle thickness thing is a little weird. It's like that because the spring coiled around the pivot is thick and requires it.

You can actually adjust the action on this knife. The blade has three holes to receive the coil spring. You can choose whether it fires hard, soft, or in the middle.

Interesting! What did yours come stock with?

My 0610ST fires like a rocket, I don't think I'll be tinkering with mine anytime soon.

I actually don't know for sure what it was at. I didn't think to check when I was took it apart. I tinkered with the different settings though.

The low setting gets it open, but not with the solid "thwack" you expect. It's probably safer that way, as the blade doesn't try to jump out of your hands.

I put mine on high and then tightened the pivot a bit more than usual. It still opens fast and the pivot is super solid feeling. There's almost no vibration when it opens.

Just finished the disassembly/reassembly of my 0650. I have taken apart several autos in the past and have to say that the 0650 is the easiest one I have ever done! Guess it took me 10 mins or less to do everything. The only thing to be careful of is the ball bearing and spring under the button as they could easily get lost if not taking care. The spring is unlike other coil springs I have seen. It is flat with more turns than I've seen before. My blade has holes all around the pivot hole. Did not count them but definately more than 3. I was unable to tell which hole it was in from the factory, but I evidently engaged a hole that allowed more spring tension as it now has a harder and faster opening, even with the tighter pivot. Again, all I can say is I really like it!!!

Mine definitely only has three holes. Maybe it was a design change. May I ask what serial number yours is? Mine is 0381, Sept 08.
