my mom & dad found me this one at a swap meet recently. i haven't had a chance to clean it up, but i sure do like it. it has a black sheath and a compass/magnifying glass/thermometer "card", with metric and standard rulers marked on it.

anyway, i think it's pretty cool, and i really dig the compass thing. my parents paid a buck for this and a buck 112 in a sheath, and then handed them off to me. good deal, i think. :D

some brief question for your SAK'ers out there, if you'll permit me: the SAK itself is really close to a Climber, but it has a saw, and a ballpoint pen. can anyone give me the model #/name? when did these come out?

the sheath has 3 "pockets" inside: the compass/multitool card says "Recta/VICTORINOX/RUEGER", and it fits inside the front pocket. the knife sits in the right hand pocket. what goes in the left-hand side? a pen?

thanks, gang.

The model is the "Huntsman", it's a fairly newer one with the ink pen and mini-screwdriver in the corkscrew, possibly a "super" or "deluxe" huntsman, then packaged in the "survival" kit with the compass and flashlight.

Nice knife!

ah... taking a second glance on Victorinox's website, i see you are correct. it is indeed the Huntsman, but with a pen.

i sport a Classic on my keychain already, but i really like this one, so i might put the Huntsman on there instead (even though it's a lot bigger). i don't know if i would carry the sheath on my belt everyday.

my mom originally e-mailed me and told me they found this. she said "do you want them?" LOL... i drove over there that afternoon!

Very nice. Anyone know where to find this package in the States? I like the compass/magnifying glass/thermometer/ruler combo.

I used to carry a different model of Victorinox survival sheath that included the same compass/magnifier/thermometer gadget. The thing would be perfect if they could just build a version of the thermometer that didn't rattle loudly. I've had two different ones and they were both surprisingly noisy whenever I moved around. Has anyone had better luck with it?

I do love the Victorinox approach to these kits. They accomplish what the infamous hollow-handled knives were supposed to do, but with less bulk and more convenience.

Abe...That is WAY COOL!...You have some GREAT parents!.:).

I think its the Huntsman plus since it has a pen. Check the scale near the corkscrew. There may be a straight pin in the scale.

ha! sure enough, there's a pin in there. (how long would it have been before i noticed that?!)

Bob, this one is also noisy as all get out when i move it. oh well.

The set you got is called the traveler set (US model #53211)

53211_l.jpg

Its MSRP is $90 - the lowest price I found using froogle.com was $45...
so I'd say you got a deal!

The knife itself is the Huntsman Plus (US model #53261)
- the "Plus" signifies that it has the ballPen and Pin fitted in the handle scales.

The Traveler Set and the Huntsman Plus models were fairly recent, I first saw them in a 2003 dealers' catalog......
they could be earlier - but probably not much ......

lol! i was wondering when the SAK-master was gonna show up, Vincent! thanks for the info. yeah, that was apparently a deal and a half. you always have to wonder how someone got their hands on that set and then decided to just "off" it for less than a dollar... i hope to carry it now and again.

Nice work UnknownVT, I new I had the Huntsman model, but I can never keep track of what makes Victorinox use the "plus", "super" or "deluxe" when defining sub-classes of their knives.

:D ha-ha! Victorinox aren't exactly consistent with the "Plus" designation  .

On most 91mm cellidor/plastic handle models the "Plus" "normally" means they've added the ballPen and Pin fitted to the handles, as well as the mini jeweller's screwdriver that fits in the corkscrew - like in the Explorer Plus and the already discussed Huntsman Plus

Except for the Altimeter Plus - where it appears that only the mini-screwdriver in the corkscrew is additional....... of course the "Plus" could mean something else here - perhaps that it has a digital thermometer in addition to the altimeter - or as below the addition of the woodsaw (I'm guessing here)

On the 84mm and the (93mm) Alox models it appears that the Plus mean the addition of the woodsaw - as in the 84mm My 1st Victorinox Plus, and the 93mm Alox Electrician Plus......

Now on the SwissTool (multiTool) the "Plus" I think means the addition of the bit wrench and bits......

I've only seen "Super" used in the Super Tinker - where it is seems the addition of the scissors to the standard Tinker - makes it "Super"....

Similarly "Deluxe" I've only noted the Deluxe Tinker - that adds the pliers to the Super Tinker.

Comparing the Altimeter to the Altimeter Plus, the woodsaw and thte mini-screwdriver seem to be the difference.
