Just picked this up today. I swore I would only spend my money on modern guns but came across this at a random gunshop and knew right away I was going to buy it. Will be a project gun to clean and restore but here in California with the impending gun laws, a 300 dollar 30 cal gun with a detach magazine is a must buy. Plus it matches my HI khukuris

and this was the article I read years ago that made me want to get one.

That should be a fun project. If the action is still good, you can do anything with that. Some of that old headspacing is an issue, but if you're tearing it down, that won't matter.

I found an old Arisaka Type 99 among all the old guns at my dad's place after he died. It's in very good shape for what it is, but I want to rebarrel and rechamber it in .308. Yeah, the purists call me a blasphemous heathen when I say that. :D

Meanwhile, I can barely afford a kuk or a katana every once in a while, so that is all on hold.

That's beautiful, looks in really good shape. Should be great fun. That's a great picture and your right, it does go very well with your blades, a perfect fit.

I don't know...

that rifle and those knives will only last another two hundred years or so.

nice.

Great Rifle! I love old lee enfields and the ishapore is a favorite! You got a good deal !

will get in a range update as soon as i get a chance...busy schedule these days and not too many ranges close by...

Excellent purchase, esp. in 7.62 Nato, lots of good ammo to choose from. Please, please don't put a scope on it. Tell us how it performs on the range, christcl.

Remind me. Are the lips that hold the rounds built into to magazine? If not, detaching a full magazine will allow for a game of 10 Round Pick-up

The magazine has the lips built in to hold the rounds. I recall that directly chambering a center fire round in a bolt action like you can do with a rim fire 22 will cause problems because the extractor will not lock on properly and eject the spent casing since it will have expanded some after the bullet is fired.
