Well, I worked out a trade & picked up an Umnum that came in today. I haven't heard from the other party yet, although I know he got his knife from me yesterday, according to tracking.

Anyways, while I've heard & read about the Umnum, I was still surprised. As for its size & weight, yes, the lg. Seb's simpler & lighter, but the Umnum's definitely a step up in futuristic refinements/ideas. Whether it's better or not, is not the issue. It different & I was surprised.

1st off, I couldn't believe how quiet & smooth it was. No "thunk" when it opened & SO smooth. Wow. It's very comfortable in the hand & is just plain nice. I haven't really used it yet, just fondled it, because I haven't heard from the other party. I like to wait until the other party's happy before I actually carry/use it.

However, preliminarily, it's definitely very nice. I still like the Seb & now I better understand the differences. I can't say it's better, but I don't think it's worse, either. It's just different &, IMHO, more "tactical" in nature than the Seb.

that says that it doesn't step on the sebs toes as much as people thought it would

LOL, that's a good way of putting it. I don't think it does. It's a different folder, period. In CRK's usual high quality, flawless execution of it, it's done extremely well, but it's a different knife, IMHO. I guess one can say it's for different uses, but I just think it has a "tactical" flair to it.

I've had different Sebs over the last 3 yrs, & "thought" I preferred the small (Came down to the small classic micarta up until recently), until late last yr, when I got a lg. classic CGG. I realized that the lg. carried very well & was more useful. Anyways, the Umnum's different, but still excellent in the way it's done, IMHO.

Now I see a different problem. Up to now, I was/am perfectly happy with the Sebs & now the Umnum, but seeing how nice the Umnum is, I just might have to get a Minandi. I didn't think I would because it's small & a nice slippie seems to fit that niche/need very well, but now I'm not so sure.

One thing I do agree with everyone on regarding CRK's folders is, they're addictive, lol.
