I got another email from benchmade concerning an Axis AFCK. The man said that there have been some customers emailing about an Axis AFCK but no one can decide what that is. Meaning that no one can decide if they would keep the same handle and blade shape and so on.

I say we barrage them with emails demanding an axis AFCK. I emailed tham at info@benchmade.com and asked for: M2 steel AFCK, combo-edge, Axis lock, carbon fiber scales, titanium liners (perhaps beefier to reduce handle flex), round hole, and perhaps even - dare I utter their name - bolsters???!! WOW would that be cool!! Please proceed to email them en masse. You can even copy my list of specs, to make things easier. :D

same handle, same blade

ROUND HOLE!

M2 steel, the axis lock can be a module (as shown by griptillian, so it shouldn't be hard, you'd need to mill out the handles differently.

Look, I'm a Benchmade fan. I think the Axis is the greatest thing since Spyderco. But Benchmade is not going to do this any time soon, and they're not going to do it just because they get dozens or a couple hundred emails.

It took them a few years to remember how to sharpen knives, folks.

LOL @ Shmackey :D

Besides, they can no longer use the round hole. If they make one it will have to be that nasty oval hole. The are no longer licensed to use Spyderco's round hole.

I think they've really dropped the ball on this one. There's been huge demand for an Axis AFCK ever since they introduced the lock and they still haven't made it. Doesn't speak too highly of their opinions on customer demand and feedback :(

I don't think they need a lisence to use the hole anymore since Spyderco's patent expired. Am I right?

Sal Glesser said on the Spyderco Forum (Spyderco Website) that the use of the hole was no longer licensed to Benchmade, thus, the oval hole.

It was the thread that rose up over the Dexter Ewing (I think) article about "tactical knives".

The knife she uses looks like some sort of generic survival knife. It looks slightly like a bowie but not quite and the spine is fully serrated.

As to the hole:
Spyderco used to have a patent on all hole openers. This patent expired. They still have the round hole as their trademark, however, which means that a round hole must be licensed from them. This is why BM went to the oval hole. It is not, as they put it, an "improvement" in my opinion. :barf:

No round hole... NO SALE:( !

Keep the 710 handle as it is an bold the AFCK blade to it, perhaps give it a slight curve like the handle on the AFCK. Use steel liners like the 710. Ask, ney BEG Spyderco for permission to use the Real Hole (TM):p . Or better still walk away and let Spyderco show us how it aught to be done. No QC problems and no dull edges, oh and a company that LISTENS (and answers e-mails;) ).

Rant over.

Interesting, why would they single U out :)

Yeah, right :D On Benchmade forum probably once in a month there's a dedicated thread, something like pls give us an AFCK in Axis. That's been going on since the axis lock appeared. Just for the heck of it I think everyone keeps posting :) For a while my signature there was "Let there be an AFCK in Axis" didn't really help though :(

Axis lock for sure. The blade will then stay put. Keep the handle and blade shape the same. I' d be content with BMs current 154CM. But make those edge angles THINNER man!! I' d settle for hole opener. It' s what I' m use to. Is there a patent/ trademark for a spine mounted disc opener?

If there are too many changes added, then the prices will soar. Let' s be content at first with the Axis lock possibility and their current line of blade steel used. Oh, yes, I' d buy a few for sure.
