I had a voyager a couple of years ago I never found myself carrying it. I decided that it was too big and too rough on the pockets.

After I sold it, I started missing it a few months later. (As it felt GREAT in the hand!) Last week, I bought another one . It arrived today. Remembering my lesson from last time I went to work on it immediately.

The clip was too tight, so I put a stack of three pennies underneath it for most of the day. I cycled the blade several dozen times to break off the factory roughness of the action. I fiddled with the pivot screw a bit, but it didn't seem to make any difference in how easily the blade moved. Since it's not a frame lock or a liner lock I should not have been surprised.

A couple hours ago, I removed the clip, fitted a drum sander in my Dremel, and went to work removing some of the very aggressive traction underneath the clip that tends to shred the pocket. That also removed enough thickness from the grip that the clip could go down a little bit further and it wasn't so tight any more.

I put it back together, and now it is just about perfect. It just needs to be carried and cycled some more.

For such a large knife it carries very well. It curves down away from the hand in the pocket and the back of it is very smooth with no overly-aggressive jimping to screw it up. It's 5/8" thick, which is thicker than some but it doesn't feel too bulky.

I'm glad to have this knife back in the fleet again.

I did the JB weld on mine and added a snuggle tooth and some hardware store thumb stud screws.

I always have to adjusts the pocket clip tension on cold steel knives. It is the first thing I do when I get a new one. It’s my only complaint about them.

The voyager needs a smooth spot under the clip. The handle is way too textured.

Yeah i remove them put electric tape on the end and slightly bend them out w pliers;they should really address that issue those clips are way too tight...

I must be their target audience.

I love a tight clip. Stays put!! No jumping out of the pocket and getting lost.

The problem is that you have 5 pocket withdrawals until your pants are shredded.

...unless you armored your pocket against it?

Cold Steel founder Lynn Thompson said his professional customers (spec ops and such) prefer it tight so he leaves it like that. The rationale being that the rest of us can easily modify them to our taste, but they're too busy or focused or something.

I typically lift the tip of the clip with a nail on the hand that is putting it back in a pocket.

Of course, I don't cary a voyager. I carry recon 1's.

Hello all. New guy here. The discussion caught my eye and I can relate to clips shredding my jeans pocket. My EDC is a Benchmade Osborne Rift. After tearing up the front pocket of my jeans, I wound up removing the clip and bending it slightly in a vise, using a little pressure at a time. Buffed the underneath of the clip to remove a rough edge. Now, it still grips firmly, but doesn't tear up my jeans. Now, if I can just get the Kershaw to cooperate...

wrangler riggs work pants. they have a leather protection area in the right hand front pocket just for clipping things into.

I took the clip off my large voyager and back pocket carry. I find that while working it is easier to drop it into that pocket and retrieve it quickly multiple times without taking my attention off of the task. Thats how I carried as a teen before clips were known. A lot of guys(some girls too) carried a large 007 type lockback that way for the street or work. Old school still works!
