I just got a new HOGFSH on Friday right before I was to go out the door. It came with me and I did nothing to it yet, needs to be sharpened some, but not bad.

We went out with some buddies dogs on saturday night, managed to rounds up some piggies. I got the first one with it, stuck her in the right side and gave it a good twist, then pulled the knife out, she squirted blood everywhere! She died some seconds later.

The next two were taken by other guys. The last one was mine and it was a young boar. The dogs were tired and couldn't get him pinned very well, so I sledgehammered/stabbed/cut his head open. The weight of this knife is very useful for this. He died instantly.

Butchered up the three females and the HOGFSH, took care of chopping off the feet and heads. I had no edge rolling or chipping, the first time for any knife I have ever had. I don't know if it is because it so thick or what.

Today I chopped some 2-3" down with it, many cut in half with the first swing, the others were two swings. The edge has held up great, though the hog blood stained the blade a little.

Pics will be added when the wife gets back with the digi cam.

I think that if the FBM LE is just a longer version of this knife, it maybe in the future. Does anyone know what the comparisions will be, is it the same just 2 inches longer or what?

This is the female, just moved, stuck on the other side.

This one is the male I got in the head.

This is another pig that one of the other guys got, he shot it, but it was about 230 lbs and female.

Here my two are hanging around, there is a little one hanging in between them, not sure who got it.

Great review but we do need some pics. how big were the hogs ?
How does the HOGFSH compare to the Battle Rat I'm getting from you ?

In Bourne, on 810 acres out in the country. You going to be ready later in the fall? TB7- One of the pigs the female was around 180 lbs and the boar was about 160 lbs. The battle rat does penetrate alittle better, but I couldn't twist it real well, as far as the chopping, hard to tell yet. Will keep informed. Let me know when the BR arrives.

You bet I'm ready...

I was just in San Antonio today -- not far from you. Did you guys do any bird hunting? There seem to be a lot of dove this year (I haven't hunted yet - just watching from the interstate.)

No pics means you're just funnin' us alls and ya just cut some store bought bacon and called it huntin'....

FBM vs Steel Heart:

Two big differences (aside from the length and weight) are the corrugated bevel and the spine. Look at the pics on the Busse Combat website - the limited BM has a normal bevel (similar to the Steel Heart), while the combat grade has the corrugated bevel. Rumor has it that the corrugated bevel improves chopping performance. It probably penetrates a little easier too, but I've never used a knife with this feature, so I'm speculating. The Steel Heart also has a smooth spine, while the BM has the two shallow cut outs on the top. I doubt either feature would be a detriment to hog hunting.

So the FBM LE would be heavier? I wasn't sure if the blade was as wide. Like on the Battle rat the blade is narrower than on the Ratweiler, so to me the RW feels heavier, if it is or not I have no idea.
