Got bored of my Ripple

I don't carry my ripple much anymore, so today I decided to do an experiment with it. I was never a fan of the partially worn look that comes standard on the ripple, so I sanded it down a bit.

After about 100 passes back and forth:

After a couple thousand passes:

At this point it has a "brushed" appearance. I liked it, but I wanted to do more.

I decided to try to polish it a little on a 3k stone:

This gave it a rather dull gray appearance, I was not impressed at this point

I polished it up with 0.5 micron paste, not going for a super high polish. Here are both scales at this point:

And the finished product :)

That is purty! I really like the silver metal with the dull gray. Have you thought about trying to remove the gray at the edges of the handle where the holes are? Then it would be solid silver except for the two dark lines in the middle. I like it just fine the way it is though.

Thanks, I don't think I have the patience to do any more work on it right now :o but I think that would be pretty awesome looking too! Maybe when I get bored of it again :D

I like it. Reminds me of something ZT might do.

Very cool, I love that there are people willing to mess with their knives to make them their own.

I am not wild about most modern folders per se, but that is one cool looking folder! You really made a huge improvement over the original. Custom by "Eh, let's see what I can to this!" Home run! Congratulations.

Blessings,

Omar

Cool stuff! I sanded mine down a bit but that looks awesome! I bought one just to check out the bearings and think it is a lot of knife for the money.

Spent the last twenty minutes looking at your results. Really like it and am trying to convince myself it's worth the effort.

Thanks, I think, for posting.

Thanks everyone, I'm really happy with the results :D It only took a couple of hours for me, and that was doing everything by hand. It really feels like a completely new knife now!
