greeting's all just dropping in to see what ive been missing . im curious how many here use dyed wood ??
Where do you get it??

I havnt used any dyed wood on knives yet but I do use dyed wood on the custom fishing rods I build.

I get my wood for reels seats from wood stabalising speacialist WSSI.

Mike actually supplies many of the knife suppliers. I

im putting together a 7wt custom fly rod right now and used a stabalized blue dyed piece of black ash for the reel seat spacer.

Mikes prices are much less $$ than many suppliers as hes the guy doing the dying..., WSSI is also a full stabaizing service and often stocks scales and blocks.

I agree Mike is good and has some sharp looking wood
I bought a piece of double dyed box elder burl and it
is great looking.I am getting ready to send some spalted
maple to WSSI to get done
 
My buddy and I sent about 10 lbs of various woods to WSSI for stabilizing. Some of it is awesome and other pieces are so-so....I think it depends on the wood. What I have seen of theirs that they sell has all been fantastic. Look at Neil Blackwoods's wood handles for example, I think he gets most of his wood from them.

That said, I got three excellent pieces from Frank Jacobs. His redwood burl was gorgeous, the black and dark green died buckeye burl was amazing and the maple was very nice. I have used them on and sold knives with all three. Frank's service was superb.

I have never heard of Frank,is there a place were I can get in touch with him.I am always looking for good wood.
I have a piece I just got from Mike it is double dyed Gold and Black box elder burl,it is going to be on one I am about to finish up

http://www.jakeknife.com./ I know Franks prices are always better at the shows so maybe the same thing threw his web page. I believe he has his wood done threw K&G but I could be wrong. Pretty sure he doesn't do it himself. His table was next to mine at the last show I did. I've got some of his handle material but still haven't used any of it yet. He's got some nice stuff...
