Got my first Ginzu knife today...Heard the pitch, got the free paring knife...
Ginzu's knives have made by the same company for over 30 years in Walnut Ridge, Arkansaw...(Did you know that? I didn't...)
Wanting to distance itself from the oriental sounding origins of it name, and as a made in America product, it has switched to using the name "Quikut"...This is the name of the parent company...
First the pitch..At the store I hear a regional direct sales for Quikut give his sales talk...Cuts into a ballpein hammer, cuts shavings of a pine board, and cuts a (tough) tomato into slices...
Claims "only Quikut uses tempered stainless steel in their knives!", and "...they never need sharpening!"...
He asked how many people had heard of "Quikut?"...no responce..."Ginzu?"...all hands show...
I asked him could he really afford to give up the universally known "Ginzu" trademark..."Yea, we might end up maketing them under both names..."
On to the knife...
"Tempered" stainless steel marked "Stainless USA" Very thin blade, about 1/32 thick with a chisel grind terminal edge...
2.5 inch blade, 6.23 inch OAL, handle made from football helmets or something, 5 year warrenty...
And the best part was I got two of them for free!
