I'm bummed.

Long story short, last night, while heading northbound in the left side lane of a 4 lane major city street, an SUV heading southbound came over into MY lane.

It was icy...........real icy........and I knew there was no way out. He was going to hit me.

I was on the cellphone at the time, watching this SUV approach me in slow motion. I tossed the phone aside, put two hands on the wheel, steered away from head-on impact and braced myself.

While waiting for that moment, I had various thoughts run thru my head. Not necessarily in order, but something like this: CRAP............I recently paid $1700 for a new transmission.........then $700 for a new fuel pump....THIS is the 'good' car.........CRAP............

<CRASH!>

"Crap became something stronger :o................I was now sideways in the street, blocking both northbound lanes. I see the oncoming headlights of another car in the right lane bearing down on me........I knew it couldn't stop in time, so I was going to get hit again........I braced once more.......

<Crash!>

Expletive deleted..........

The two people from the SUV were already out of the car. My door wouldn't open. I get out the other side. I asked the SUV guys about their license and insurance............great, NO COMPRENDE INGLES............

NO LICENSE..............NO INSURANCE...............NO LEGAL STATUS IN USA............

Everyone was fine........the buddy of the driver took off when the cops showed up.......

Have to wait until Wednesday to talk to my insurance agent.

My car, a smaller SUV (Olds Bravada) was drivable, unlike the Isuzu Rodeo Jose was driving........illegally..........he bought it from a dealer and NEVER registered it, altho it had tags on it. The car that hit me had no damage at all. Damage on that side was relatively minor.......but SHE is insured, so maybe there's enough damage there to cover my deductible. If not, then I may have to part with some INFI.........:grumpy:

It could've been worse in many ways and I'm thankful that no one got hurt.

Anyway, just wanted to vent a bit.

glad you're ok david.

i deal with those pos drivers every day. i used to be sympathetic, most were knowingly driving unlicensed to get to work, school, etc.

but it has become soooooo common, that ive decided to start impounding their cars again. california allows a 30 day hold after impounding the vehicle of an unlicensed driver. screw em!

This fellow got arrested and his car impounded..............broke my heart.........NOT

.

Glad to hear your OK Dave. I'm going to hold my tongue about the ILLEGAL s#!+heads.

I'm glad you're OK! Do you have uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage? I maxed out those coverages on my car because it is such a problem around here.

Glad your OK, thats the main thing.

I'm not even gonna get started on the illegals:mad: What it the heck is this country going to be like in 25 years

Dang...sorry to hear about that. That kind of thing happens alot around here as we are right on the border.

I hope the rest of your Holiday season is better and you don't have to part with any INFI.

I'm just glad you did not get hurt. That's tough luck right here at the holidays. I hope you get a break and find a way for someone's insurance to cover it.

Good news for you... If the driver that caused the accident has insurance, no matter what damage their vehicle did to yours then they are responsible for all of it... since none of the later damage would have happened if they hadn't started the wreck. I take it that "jose" hit you after the initial wreck..... He will go to jail but the first driver will have to pay for repairs to all vehicles involved... if there insurance doesn't.. then go get a lawyer... no need for your rates to rise because of someone else.

WOW, good to see that no one was hurt bad.

It really sucks that your Olds got smashed up because someone didn't bother to learn how to drive. It's screwed up that unlicensed drivers don't bother to flip through a drivers manual or have their kids read one to them. If they fall into the category that Morimotom described they could do the general public the favor of learning how to drive even if they can't get the "mica" to show for it.

If you think it would be worth your time, you should have your insurance company pursue the dealership or financial institution for damages. IF they are going to sell cars to unlicensed( and therefore uninsured) drivers then they should have to cover any damages that are caused. If Jose's SUV was still owned by a bank then your insurance company should be able to collect from the legal owner. If it was paid off then your insurance company should at least bring it to the attention of the seller that they are putting hazardous drivers on the road.

David--I'm really glad you didn't get hurt, man! I think I will refrain from submitting my opinion about illegals in general, as well. The important thing is that you are okay!

A girl needs a knife...

David....glad you are okay!

Those roads were bad last night in OK (Edmond was really bad). I didn't realize how bad until I slid through an intersection!

There is nothing good to say about an illegal hitting you. It happened to me a few years ago, and if it wouldn't have happend on my jobsite & the fact I knew his boss, I would have been screwed!

Good news for you... If the driver that caused the accident has insurance, no matter what damage their vehicle did to yours then they are responsible for all of it... since none of the later damage would have happened if they hadn't started the wreck.

Not neccessarily true. After reading the OP, the first vehicle (caused the accident) was driven by "jose". The second vehicle that hit has insurance. The first vehicle would be responsible for any damage it caused. The second vehicle would be responsible for any damage to that side. Since the second vehicle couldn't stop in time, it is usually their insurance that will pay for that damage they caused.

I take it that "jose" hit you after the initial wreck..... He will go to jail but the first driver will have to pay for repairs to all vehicles involved... if there insurance doesn't.. then go get a lawyer... no need for your rates to rise because of someone else.

Since Jose was the driver that caused the accident, and he doesn't have insurance, good luck getting anything out of him. Hope the OP has uninsured/under-insured coverage on his policy.

Man - how frustrating -- be glad you and everyone walked away.

I had the same experience. Illegal woman ran a light and broadsided my truck last winter. She tried to back up and run but her civic was too twisted to get far. As mad as i was, i felt bad for her since she couldn't produce a driver's license, US identification or any registration. Pretty sure she was in a world of hurt on many levels. But - you make a mistake or a stupid decision -- you pay the price.

Living in CA - I have uninsured motorist coverage because its such a rampant problem. Fortunately, witness reports meant insurance covered everything including the deductible.

Hope all works out! -- so far it has - you walked away:thumbup:

Glad you are generally OK! I feel your pain as something similar happened to me awhile back. Cruising home in my new Subaru STi (some modifications applied, more at home in the garage) on a beautiful sunny day and traffic comes to a stop. BAM, a white van loaded with "undocumented" workers crashes into a Toyota Tacoma to the side of me, then into my passsenger side rear quarter panel ..... there goes the new car smell. They did a driver switch on me, which might have been in my favor as the "new" driver had some form of ID/connection with crappy company insurance. Denver PD had absolutely no interest in the overall lack of documentation and damage caused. In the end, they were painters working for pennies for some big gringo meathead.

Again, glad you are doing OK physically. Sucks about the damage done and the lack of responsibility! :thumbdn:

Hey David!
Sorry about the accident, but am glad you are OK.
Hope everything works out with the insurance company and such.
