Well folks, I have finally done what has taken me over a year and a half to do. Yesterday I got in my first Tom Mayo knife. It is straight from Blade from Tom, I am the first owner and it is beyond amazing. It is a Tom Mayo TNT Damascus with his new high performance damascus that is not grey in color like his older style but satin in color and is somehow made into the blade. He calls it HPX/CPM 154 Mix High Performance Damascus. The fit and finish is amazing and it is by far one of the nicest knives that I have had the priveledge of owning. I have had 3 other opportunties to buy a Mayo in the past. The first one was a really small one with a blade under 3 inches, which I did not like, especially for the money and the last two were not in mint condition and were still asking new prices. This one is brand new from Tom and includes a handmade pouch that was made by his daughter. I am just so happy and my advice to those out there that have always wanted a Mayo is to wait. Wait for that perfect one as someday it will come along. This one has a Moran Bowie style blade and it is just beyong words. I love how the damascus is there but isn't that grey colored damascus that he usually uses. It is more subtle, until you get close to the knife and then it jumps out at you. The knife is perfectly centered, absolutly has zero play when open, and open and closes so smoothly it puts all my other knives to shame. With the exception of my 2003 Large Regular Sbenza which is by far the smoothest sebenza that I have ever felt. Words cannot explain how happy I am. Yes, it did cost a small fortune but that is ok. To me it is worth it to own a piece of Mayo history and Tom has said that since he is turnig 66 he has officially stopped taking orders forever and is only completing orders from years past that are overdue. I spoke with him and he was quite serious when he said that it was time for him to enjoy life and spend time with his friends and family. He did the knife thing for a long time and made some amazing pieces but that part of his life is over and that means that it is only going to get more difficult to find pieces that are in mint condition that he has made. I will keep mine forever and although everything does have a price I would never sell this one unless it was an outragous offer as it is just so nice, and there is not s ingle blemish, inperfection or anything one it. So far I have only opened it 8 times and everytime I just can't believe how it feels in the hand and how there are zero hot spots and it just forms to your hand. Thanks for listening to my story and I will get some pics up in a day or so. Happy Father's Day to all Fathers and Grandfathers out there as we appreciate you all more than we could ever say. Take care everyone.
