This is really probably a work in progress, as I can't say for sure if I'll keep the bocote scales. I may go for a pinned construction. But for right now, you can get the idea. Was out in the shop all morning working on this, and probably could do some more polishing to the blade. Then again, I'm probably going to force a patina, so we'll just have to see. Here's where I'm at so far:

I altered the shape of the blade to something more akin to the Izula, which moved the balance slightly forward, but also reprofiled the grind to a very high flat grind (pretty close to FFG, really). I shrunk the guard and moved the finger detent up about an inch, and took off and reprofiled the bottom of the knife. Sharp eyes will notice that yes, indeed, for the sheer unadulterated heck of it, I put in a beer opener, using the lanyard hole.

It's still a beastly knife, but it feels a lot more streamlined in hand:

Also touched it up on the paper wheels as it's been hanging on the wall in my shop for several months.

Next step, etching and patina work...

Well done, sir!

I hesitate to ask for more pics when you're finished modding, as I kinda like it the way it is...

Looks awesome man, can't image how it will look when you're done considering it looks sweet now. Only thing I could think to add is some gimping but that's just personal preference.

Dude I love that wood grain!

I'm a pretty big fan of bocote. I can pick my own boards at Woodcraft too.

I'll bet that thing is really, really sharp now. I'd love an FFG 2.

It's definitely quite sharp. I took it almost all the way to zero ground, then convexed the edge, did a quick hone on the paper wheels, and then did a little stropping with jewelers rouge. The higher angle really eats through cardboard (a common testing medium for me), but with Ka-bar's heat treat, it can still do just fine on wood processing. Hardest part was the fact that I do the grinds freehand, and I had to cool it after every pass. FFG 2 is pretty nice.

Now THIS is how you mod a BK-2! Honestly man, great work :)...

Thanks! It was your 2 that inspired me to finally work on this project. Next step is probably kydexing it.

Also, here's another shot of the forced etch/patina/faux hamon. Managed to get some good figure out of it, and retain the multiple etches.

That looks pretty sweet....looks like you have an ocean in your blade ;)

Hi Crimsionfalcon

The multiple etches's a great idea, the blade looks absolutely gorgeous. Any reason you etched it towards the edge side and not towards the spine.

regards
Moin.

Dig the false hamon. Alot.
Why have I never seen where someone's done this before? It's a brilliant idea!

also, beer openers never hurt my feelings.
