... though its temporary job till December. But as student getting job that allows me to study and helps me financely during these hard times anything is welcome.

Anyway to celebrate this and I had long time enough money so I could treat myself I bought my first pen knife. Ok, I did not mean to buy one but once I secured my temporary work and had first pay check in, I noticed I had about $35 which I could use to buy something nice such. So I bought Buck 309 Comfort Companion. To give some proper perspective I've taken pictures next to Case amber bone stainless Peanut.

While Cases pen knife is 3 1/4" Buck 309 is 3" closed and case Peanut is 2 7/8" closed. Buck 305 Lancer is smaller version of Companion and 2 5/8" long closed. I don't have Lancer as I think it would be too small. 3" is quite good for me.

Now springs and snaps are not quite as substansial as with Case but they're nice and smooth. Fit and Finish are very, very good. Made in USA and Buck Forever warranty... I like this Yellow Companion alot.

Very nice. Congrats on the job, they seem to be few and far between lately.
I've never paid much attention to Buck in the past but perhaps I should. That looks great.

The 309 is the pocket knife that my friend Wayne is such a fanatic on. Wayne with his 309 is very much like my father was with his peanut. Wayne is not much of a knife knut, but he knows a sharp knife is needed in everyday life, so he won't leave the house without his 309. I've seen him use it at lunch, cut crab and fish bait, and work it on home carpentry projects.

The 309 is a great little knife, and yellow is a great color.:thumbup:

Carl.

I really like that one. Do they have those at Cabela's? I'll have to pick one up when I see one, really like the color too.

Congrats on the job!

Any chance of it turing into something more permanent?

Most likely not... But who knows. All I learned that I won't hold my breath for it. However with my IT-skills and when I graduate, I am sure I can find something :)

Congrats on the job and your new Buck, Jani.

Not sure if it's an issue on the 309, but I have one of the yellow 303's and the shield fell out of it. I've heard they have the same problem with the yellow 301's too. There is just one "dot" of some type of adhesive holding the shield in place. Fortunately, when mine fell out I found it right away, and used some epoxy to glue it back in. Just a "heads up" for you to keep an eye on your shield! ;)

In fact, you may want to take preemptive action and see if you can easily pry out the shield with your fingernail or the tip of another knife blade, and glue it more securely to start with ..... beats losing the shield unawares and not being able to find it.

Agreed. The only problem is it'll wear out after 30 years or so. ;)

By then it has collected alot additional color for being used, carried and such. By then I am sure faded color is no problem... at least I hope so :D

Keith: Thanks for the heads up. I'll check that. Currently shield is very securely on its place and I can't get tip of any knife without using considerable violence or so I could pry it off.

Glad to hear about the job. I know it is a relief to have something steady while in school ;).

Congrats Jani. I hope that knife serves you well during more success in your future.

Carl is right again! Why have 1 when you could have 2? BUT.......... Some might say why have 2 when you can have 3. Oh no its a losing battle. :D

Congrats on the job also.

Congratulations on the job, and the new knife. I recently came into a Buck 310, which looks alot like yours but with an additional blade. I love it, very sharp and quite useful. A good size as well.

Jobs are good, congratulations!!! The 309 is probably the only slippie I carried for a few years without changing. I love the pattern. Now use it up and I mean use it... hard, it will handle it.

Congrats on the job and the new Buck - use it well!

Well done:thumbup:

By a strange co-incidence, my Buck Companion arrived today as well. It's quite different from the CASE Pen-knife, a wee bit smaller as you point out. It also has two springs which is odd on a small knife and stainless liners. Very good snap and well put together, I'm pleased. I also rather like the new Buck shield. Pen-knives need more consideration.
