The postman came today with that nice Mala I ordered from one of last sales batch.
Its beautiful and wicked blade! From first sight made to chop men, nit wood. The spine is very thick, the blade clean, the bolsters have good fit.
The handle has unusual nice texturing, but it needs some sandpaper and oil treatment for the beauty to excell.

Feeling is different than that of sirupati. The angle is slightly different and the blade is pointy and evil.

Glad to get that one!!!

I'm glad you like your Malla, Hawkwind. I find my own, which has a narrower waist than yours if my memory serves me, and therefore is technically even 'weaker', is still capable of cutting a fair amount of wood. I like it for a general hiking khuk. It offers protection and light wood tasks, like harvesting those insect balls of wood growth I still haven't figured out what to do with yet.

Now that I have my belt sander's I'll sand the balls and still not know what to do with them. But they'll be smooth.

If you figure out what to do with them, let me know. I never really noticed the things until you mentioned them, but since you have...

There are some large seeds called Ivory Nuts that some of the high end lumber stores sell. I understand they are used for carvings and such. I don't know if they would be strong or fit enough to use on a knife handle but if so they would sure be pretty for small applications.
I wonder if your wood insect balls are large and strong enough for similar?

Yvsa,
Some of the wood is rotten and cracked, but a lot of it is finely grained, and very dense for Pine. It's weird.

Wow guys, this sounds like maybe it should be on a different forum all together :footinmou

Hawkwind, congrats on the Malla ~ always wanted one of those!

Some of them get to be the size of a Naval Orange where I live. I think I could make a knife handle or pistol grip out of the wood.

Maybe the little ones could be Christmas tree ornaments.
