Visited the Yucatan again and was around Merida. We went to Uxmal to see the most fabulous ruins. And we traveled to Bekal and I bought a Panama hat.

In many ways, the equivalent of HI khukuris. Extremely well made according to traditional methods, in caves so the work is done in cool and humid conditions.

Anyone else interested in Panama hats (I wasn't but now I am)?

I shall try. Meanwhile, This page explains the village where I bought the hat, actually a jicijapa hat.

I just ordered a book called The Panama Hat Trail which is about Ecuador's hats and everything connected with their production. Looking forward to it. And I found a site that sells hats for up to $5000
