Hi, I would like to share some thoughts about my new Prolite Tanto. First of all, for $25 (including tax), what an amazing knife. Once you hold it, there no questioning its Cold Steel DNA. I know that some people frown on the 4116 Krupp steel, but I love inexpensive, easy to sharpen knives. It's awesome that I can try out the premier tri-ad lock at this price point. And what an amazing lock it is. I could never imagine how rock solid a 3 oz. folder with plastic handles could feel. There are no loose screws, no rattles, no play.

To my eyes, the drop point tanto shape is very pleasing, and the stone washed finish adds a touch of class. Of course, the blade is razor sharp. When trying to close it one handed, the blade swung back enough to bite me (twice). It didn't take much pressure to draw blood. The stiffness of the lock does take some getting used to, both in terms of opening and closing. I'm getting a nice callous on my thumb from breaking in the lock.

The handle is a comfortable shape; it's not too thin and has nice texturing. Being a lefty, I wanted to swap the thumb studs, but have not yet successfully budged them. Nonetheless, it is still possible to open the knife using the short stud. The pocket clip is rather firm, and I would not say it is easy to draw the knife when it is fully clipped in. I learned the hard way that the clip has longer screws than the place holder screws on the opposite side, and the screws need to follow the clip if you are switching sides.

One cannot help but feel confident when holding this knife. I'd be happy if this was the only knife I have. This humble knife is a winner, and I love how Cold Steel puts as much thought into their inexpensive knives as their premier ones. The Prolite can stand on its own merits as a great knife.

Thanks for sharing! I always love when people love the budget knives because it gives me hope that they will eventually fall into a higher end model and be even more enamored. Pro tip: Use pliers on both sides of the thumb studs. Wrap them in electrical tape so the teeth don't mess them up.

Nice review. I recently acquired a Pro Lite clip blade. I like it so much that I'm thinking about buying another seeing as they are discontinued. But I can't decide between another clip or maybe a tanto. The clip just seems to have more useable blade, but the tanto has other things going for it. They are definitely nice knives!

Trust me, heat is required with some of your thumbstuds. They can be very difficult to remove without heating the presentation side stud until the other thumbstud gets hot to the touch. After that, a well fitting flat head will loosen it.

I place the knife on a towel when bearing into it with a screwdriver .

Just ordered another clip point, this time in black. This knife is discontinued, so if I ever lose my first one, I'll have a back up ('cause when they're gone, they're gone). I have many CS knives, but this model is rapidly becoming my favorite. Plus the price right now is dirt cheap.
