I found this laying in a Gun Shop locally and asked about it. He had it priced at $110 but for the $90 cash price he said he would take I had to have it. It says on the side Thunder and the manual that came with it IDs it as such. Made by RT&M Inc. Which apparently is no longer in business. Made in Bristol Tn. USA.
Opposite side of the barrel says CAL 450. It shoots 410 shotgun, or 45 Long Colt and came with an insert that is basically the same exact size as a 410 shell only it is made to hold 9mm ammo. According to the manual it came with interchangeable sleeves for several calibers including 22LR, 32 long, short and auto, 380, and 45 ACP. Boy I wish I could get those too.
The guy that owns the Gun Shop said that the manual and 9mm sleeve was all he got with it in trade. Too bad. I'd really like to know someone that could make or machine some sleeve inserts for the 380, 45 and 22 cals. That would make it even sweeter than it already is. Although it about jumps out of my hand with a 410 load in it it is manageable. The 9mm shot shell is the best load for it based on my own testing of it yesterday. Kind of hard to miss with one of those or the 410 but aiming a bullet or a slug is about impossible. I guess it is typical for a derringer in that it is more akin to pointing than aiming.
Anyway, this derringer incoporates an off center pivoting side swing barrel for reloading and it locks up strong when closed. It has a safety and markings both S and F on the sides of the body and a half cock safety built into the design for the hammer. It also fits in my NAA 22 Black Widow holster like it was made for it. I just had to show it off.
This one is a keeper. I'm sure this one will be my fishing gun for the next cotton mouth that creeps up on me and tries to get in my boat like last time. Only this time I'll have a surprise for ole slim. Only thing that could make it better is if it were double barreled. I have not seen another one like it anywhere. Anyone here ever seen it?
