hrm... it just came in the mail about 15 minutes ago. dare i say??... i like it BETTER than my 806D2??

some initial thoughts: the handle is smaller than that of the 806. i was under the impression that they were identical/interchangeable. the size is very nice, and almost unnoticeable from the AFCK, unless you hold them side-by-side, like i did. the G10 slabs also appear considerably thinner than those of the AFCK. the one i received has no provisions for tip-down carry (i could care less, as i prefer tip-up with my AXIS knives). are they all like this?

this one came modified: the handles were polished along the perimeter of the scales, as well as the clip, which now boasts a mirror-finish. hmm, i wonder who did this? :D;)

i like the stud over the hole 100%. the hole is quite nice on my Spydies, but i find the scales of the AFCK too thick to make its use comfortable. oddly enough, the 805 sports thinner scales and a thumb-stud. weird. i'm going to chalk this up to the 805's being sold as a "Safety" knife, rather than a "Combat" knife. the thumb-ramp is awesome. i love it. instant positive grip. oh, and i like the wide, slicey-blade of the TSEK. as far as i'm concerned, this is every bit as functional in a self-defense situation as the AFCK, which is nice.

so Bummer with a capital "B". it's discontinued. i don't want to carry this one... lame, i know, but i just want to get another and put it away before i start putting this one thru it's paces. sucks, 'cause this looks like a super EDC. once i get a second, i'll be packing this one for sure. it seems to correct everything that i found to be lacking in the 806.

oh well. that's all.

Abe...So, now you've ended-up with 2 of my "old" customized Benchmades.:D.

I really can't understand why Benchmade DC'd the 805, as it's my all-time favorite folder...Period.

here's some side-by-side pictures, taken indoors. i need better lighting, but whatever. you get the idea... ;) (hope these aren't too big for you guys)

Well done mate- nice score, Ive been keeping an eye out for a plain edge 805 for some time but can't track one down. Will just keep looking.

thanks very much, Stockman. did you try throwing out a "WTB" in the trade forums? i'm sure someone's got one at the right price. i highly recommend it, but you don't need any convincing, do you? good luck!

Great knife. I like the polished clips. I gotta do that. Did Glockman reprofile those edge bevels?

Now I wish I'd picked up a plain edge when they were available. At the last minute I changed my mind and got a Chinnok II, which is nice, but still . . .

The local knife store (River's Edge) has a two limited edition 805s with walnut inlays and M2 blades. They're part serated.

No, I left the edges "stock" on both knives, as they cut very well "as-is" with the factory edge.

the 805 is one of my all-time fave blade shapes. certainly my fave benchmade blade shape. it's an incredible shame that they are discontinuing the plain edge.. i don't get this AT ALL. i still don't get why they limited the plain edge tsek to 440c either. perhaps we can start a petition & send it to BM? i'm serious.

I'm with you. I just picked up an 803 pre-production (GIN-1 steel, basically an 805 with a liner lock instead of Axis), and I *love* the blade shape. The high grind mean it slices like no tomorrow, too. An 805, with that blade shape and with an Axis lock, with some decent blade steel (S30V, or even better, D2) might even overtake my 710 as my favorite knife in the world!

i agree with you on all accounts. however, i'm pretty sure BM has discontinued all variations of the 805, not just the PE. i'd like to see a plain edge D2 or M2 805 come out, but without those horrid walnut inlays!!

even still, BM's 440C is excellent; my mini Grip (well, now it's my wife's) holds an edge for a very long time, and it's a snap to sharpen.

I've been trying too, ever since I found out that it's discontinued. I was behaving myself and postponing this particular knife purchase (and some other ones as well) and this is the reward I get. ;-) If I find a place that has some I'll let folks know.

Goose eggs. I found a few places that offered the plain edge 805 on the internet, put my orders in, and they were all out despite having it on their site and accepting the order. I do have a partly-serrated edge 805 I bought earlier this year just in case that was the last one I could get, but darn that edge! Guess it's time to look for a used plain-edge 805.

Glockman, you're right. This is a great knife, both in handle ergonomics and blade. Maybe Benchmade could come out with a limited edition with a 154CM or S30V blade.

805 is an amazing design - I like it so much that when I found out they were discontinuing it, I bought four of them in plain edge and put 'em in the safe. Maybe I'll let one or two of them go very soon in the exchange ;)

Ummm.... the Benchmade site now shows this knife as being available again. Not just the HSSR, but the regular old 805 plain edge: http://www.benchmade.com/products/product_detail.aspx?model=805

Did I have too much to drink or did my one of my dreams just come true? :-)))))

I've been carrying my plainedge 805 for about 15 months now daily and even though it's been DC'd, I will continue carrying and using it. It's the most comfortable one-hander I own. I figure I'll get more enjoyment out of it by carrying it than I would not carrying it.

Who knows? Maybe someday if there's enough demand, BM might be persuaded to bring it back?? I definitely like the stud better than the AFCK's hole, as I can open it faster and with more versatility. It certainly opens faster than any assisted-opener I own. I also like BM's 440C steel; they've got it right.

somebody find out!! please!! I really hope they smartened up and brought it back - its the greatest large folder thats ever graced my pocket. WHY WHY WHY was the plain edge not offered with the black coating ( thats the ONLY imperfection)

I looked through my 2005 Benchmade catalog (the newest one), and I don't see the 805 anywhere (I looked twice.). Maybe Benchmade found a stockpile of un-sold 805 that they are going to sell on the web-site...That would be nice.:).

I took a closer look at the website. Knives that are in stock have an "add to cart" button. The 805 does not- it just has a dealer locater link. It must not actually be in stock. So why is it on the web site when it's been discontinued for months? In fact, I seem to remember that for a time this year it wasn't even on the web site, though maybe someone else has a better memory than me and can correct that.

Thy mystery deepens...
