i have owned this here knife for a little while, and thought i would report on its performance.
i use this knife HARD. cutting up boxes at work, opening packages, string, rope, the annoying plastic bands that our cases of seafood come in at work,etc...during all this the knife has been dropped, banged agaisnt metal (the cutting edge, not the spine).ive used it to pry drain covers off the floor. ive soaked it in a degreaser we've got called 'titan',which is corrosive as hell.it ate through the glue on my favorite pair of boots, and is doing the same to a coworkers tennis shoes.
nothing.
no rust,no stains.
nothing.
the edge has held up great. i will cut at something (plastic bag, paper, whatever) and think i didnt cut it. lo and behold,it sliced it so cleanly i couldnt see the cut.its incredible. i havent sharpened it since i got it (a few weeks,i guess),and it was still scraping hair off my arm. wouldnt 'shave' per se.
i touched it up just now on my ag russell ceramic sharpener, and its flinging hair off pretty easily. my arms are bald.
the handles are holding up just fine. easy to keep a good grip, even wet and soaked with chemicals.
someone,in a knife rag, wrote that his only gripe was with the handle length. that he wished it could be half and in longer (maybe it was an inch and a half?). i do agree. longer would be nice, but that was cause a signifigant price increase...trade off between production costs, and what you want. im happy with it the way it is.the handle thickness could be a little larger, but as a result you would have a larger knife (duh),and i think for this one,its just right. its very comfortable.as for the handle issues,i may order the custom one from rob
there are serrations on the handle as well,on the spine, and where your index finger would go.these have been thought out, obviously. they do a good job of keeping the knife secure, but dont cut into your fingers at all.very nice.
the sheath is also holding up nicely.i wear it horizontally on my belt, right in front of the buckle,in a left hand draw.this way i can wear the knife all day,and LITERALLY forget its there. i check every five minutes or so to make sure its there.
thats about all i can think of,right this moment. if you have been thinking of getting one, stop what your doing, and ORDER NOW! (no,im not getting paid for this,i wish).
is it worth the 250 bucks (more or less, depending)?
in my opinion...definitely.every red cent.
if something were to happen to this one,and i would sure as hell buy another one,in a second.
