Well I just got my ZT 0550 in the mail today. First impression out of box was "dang this thing is thick", the knife definitely does not lack in the muscle department. It is just big, thick and solid. The lockup is great, its smooth and sexy looking to boot. I carried it all day and despite the weight I noticed no difference from my usual Manix 2. The clip is awesome. Its short (which I love), very firm and the finish is perfect. Flipping it open does take some getting used to but once you find the right position it fly's out. I cut up a bunch of thick TV box cardboard with no problems. Dont expect it to be a smooth slice because its just not designed for that. It was much easier to cut through the same cardboard with my FFG manix 2 but I was expecting that. The S35Vn held up great, after cutting through the entire box it cut through computer paper the same way it cut before I started. Anyway I like the knife enough to keep it in my EDC rotation and plan on putting it to hard use in the future.

Here is a crappy cell pic I took after cutting the cardboard.

Congrats on your new 0550....definitely a tank of a knife. Mine hasn't left my pocket since I got it and is always within hands reach when I'm at home too.

Im not going to lie, mine has left my pocket quite a few times. I just seem to keep finding things to cut. lol

I thought about it but honestly I can not bring myself to pay that amount of money for one scale. I actually like the look of it already but who knows maybe ill have one custom made in the future. That blue sure looks nice!

Honestly, I thought the same thing about the price but then I thought about the material and amount of work it takes to make one of these. As Rick mentioned in this post;

..........Oh and the price is the same as the scales for my XM-18...its the same material and takes the same amount of time to make them as the XM-18 scales...hense the same price...

Rick Hinderer

Although mine doesn't have the same texture as the Hinderer scales, the frag pattern scale was made by the Hinderer shop for MonkeyEdge. I had some extra cash so I figured what the heck....I'll only cry once when I pay for it. Lol

Either way, the 0550 is definitely a keeper.

It is a great knife begging for a scale swap. Mine fires open with a simple thumb flick on the stud. If you are having opening issues, very slightly loosen the pivot screw.

That orange looks awesome....and cool Hinderer lanyard bead too.

Thanks for the kind words on my accessory choices. I sometimes look to add some color as many of my knives are all black on black. My pics do not do the color justice. Crap cell pics are no substitute for the real thing. Your blue Frag scale is a nice way to go as well. For some reason I just am not 100% into the original scale. The Hinderer lanyard beads find their way onto many if not all my Hinderer and Hinderer-collaboration knives.

That orange really 'pops'. Looks great!

I just love all the pics I've seen of different scales on the 0550. Would love it if ZT would offer different versions of the 0550. Black blade, tiger stripe, green scales, etc.

Hopefully down the road, they will think about doing different versions.

I just got mine (0550) today...does the blade loosen with use? I loosened the pivot so that I could thumb it open easier but then the blade was way off center in the closed position.
I worked the pivot down tighter to a compromise, but still kinda rough on my thumb.

Another question, is anyone else making custom scales?.....Hinderer seems to be mighty proud of his.

Try this: open the blade just enough to where it is not being retained anymore. Then give it a very light flick, if it pops open nicely than its not the pivot but the way your trying to open it. Try putting you thumb under thumb stud and flick your thumb straight up without pushing towards the blade. I found it hard to open mine at the beginning too but it wasnt the knife it was the way I was doing it. A little practice and you should get it.

There is not a lot of adjustment in the pivot screw before it becomes too loose. I would love to show how I fling mine open with the thumb stud because it would be so much easier to understand. First off, I hold the knife in my right hand and wrap my fingertips around so they are holding the pocket clip and resting at the area where the frame and closed blade meet. The knife is firmly pressed into the palm of my hand. I place my thumb nail on the thumb stud and quickly extend my thumb outward/upward. The ZT flys open and locks like a vault.
As far as I know Rick and crew make all the scales.

Hey, I think I got it! I was pushing the thumb stud outward instead of up.....so easy now I feel kinda dumb.... and the blade is centered...Thanks!....you too N2K.
