Got the package Friday afternoon, and cracked it open Saturday morning...very happy!

"I love the smell of canvas Micarta in the morning" :D

The smell of the Canvas on a freshly made knife, when you first open the box is so-very intoxicating...I love it! To me, its on the same level of awesomeness as bacon and eggs, fresh doughnuts, or butter popcorn at the movie theater

I like this knife more than I realized I would...truly a home run:thumbup:

I would like to apply a little oil to the canvas, in order to darken it up...which type works best?

Thinking about one more TGLB...deciding between G10 & Canvas...for those with G10, how grippy are those textured G10 scales, when compared to the canvas...(1) being the least - (10) the most...how would you rank the G10?

Grego,

Use mineral oil on handles.
G10 handles are a great choice--more color choices & material is grippy due to line pattern.
Don't think you'll ever wear out G10 or Micarta.

I am using a type of non oily J&J baby mineral oil for the canvas micarta handles. The end result is quite nice and I do not end up with oily handles

Woah dude, you chose the same colour combo as me! They'll be like twin brothers separated at birth!
Make that triplets. :D

I like how the black canvas changes color. When its dry its kind of like a military OD green, when you use it and it takes on little moisture it gets darker, if you really get it wet it turns black, when it dries out it turns green again. Kinda neat.

Looks like you guys have good taste:thumbup:

I do like that the black canvas can be somewhat of a chameleon...it has character. I am tempted to go black G10 on my next one, because it stays what I refer to as "digital black" at all times. I am not sure if I will like the extra added weight of the G10 though...is the difference in weight very noticable?

I have never owned anything with the tan canvas...does tan canvas have the same properties as the black? in terms of how it looks wet vs. dry? I can imagine that the tan canvas would look like a dark and oily Habano wrapper on a Joya de Nicaragua cigar (my all time favorite) when wet or well used/handled. If I do not go with the black G10 on either a Tanker Gray or Jungle Green blade, my very next choice will be a black blade and tan canvas.

Thanks for the recommendation, that sounds like a winner!

I have a one micarta and one G10 TGLB. I recommend getting a G10 one so you have one of each. The G10 seems more grippy in regular use, but the micarta seems more grippy when wet. Could just be in my head though, and they both provide plenty of grip so no worries!

I don't have either TG, but have sampled many of those materials and my un-scientific experience is that the canvas Micarta's have more natural texture to them and must be somewhat porous in order for it to change color when wet. The G10 on the other hand feels more "plasticy" to me because the natural material is less porous and would not have much natural texture beyond the texture that is milled into the grip. G10 won't change color because it doesn't absorb the water in any way that I have seen. I would imagine that the grip shape and design is what creates a good grip, but the canvas micarta's will have more natural texture to it, just due to the properties of the material (canvas).

I don't like the fact that the canvas Micarta will darken when wet or with use, because I like the grayness of it, and that is one of the reasons I like G10, because I know the color will never change.

All that said, I am stuck between a Blue/Black G10 & gray blade OR Black Micarta & gray blade. Can't decide! Both are very nice!

Congrats on your first TGLB! They sure are awesome, aren't they?

Yes, very much so. I really like the weight & balance...with the original being heavier, I can see how the TG was a great candidate for the LB treatment...it feels absolutely perfect to me (based on the size and style of knife it is).
