It arrived on monday from 1SKS. Mine has a warped latch though, with the part that sticks out to lock the knife closed lopsided, making it a pain to open close. Other than that it's a sweet knife but that latch problem really makes it hard to open and close so I think I'll send it back to be fixed. Anyone know the best way to go around doing this? ie, how to ship it and what amount, if any, I need to include for getting it back to me?

...got mine on monday too

These being my first benchmade bali's (and 1st knives i spent more than 25$ for

), I too have some questions about the latch....

The latch on my 42s is works great. When latched closed, I can squease the handles letting the latch fall open on its own before I start flipping. In a reverse grip with the knife open, I can squease the handles and the latch will fall in the slot to lock it. BTW, theres no gaps between the latch and the slot when locked. I like this "feature" a lot and can only assume all bm bali's should behave this way.

My other 42 does not preform the same way. Theres just a little too much friction between the latch and the slot for it to move freely, which raises the question: what does the knife need to fix this? The latch doesnt really look warped. If i send it to BM would they replace the latch or grind the latch or slot or what.....?

My standard production 42 shows a lot of hand fitting, i.e., filing, of the latch and fits well, as it should. The latch is obviously cast and has had the casting marks removed for the proper fit. If you go the do-it-yourself route, use a sharp file with a 'safe edge' and remove A VERY LITTLE BIT AT A TIME or it will be loose forever!!!!

i placed my preorder for my pair of 42's on april 2nd or so...
