Well, this is my first non-Bali Benchmade folder, and I am very impressed. The initial feel is similar to my Sifu SE, but a little smaller and narrower. The steel is the same, both D2, but the action of the Benchmade is smoother. The area of the blade that stays in contact with the Axis lock is a bit more finished, not as rough as on the Rekat Sifu. Like the Rolling Lock, the initial lockup of this one tend to be a bit tight to release, but nothing that some Tough Glide and initial usage won't take care of.

The G10 scales are nice, not quite as deep checkering as the Rekats, but plenty adequate for grip. This handle flows well from saber to reverse grip and back. I like the ambidextrous set up with both the Axis Lock and the scales being drilled out for the clip on both sides.

This D2 steel came out of the box "hair poppin'" sharp! only my Spyderco's and my CRKT Companion came out of the box this sharp. Another attention to details for Benchmade!

I think the only thing I would ask for in this knife would be a little bit of a recurve, but it is nice as it is. It's quite obviously going to be in my daily edc routine.

I agree. A slight recurve would be an improvement. Of course a satin finish is a must. :D

Hmmmm....kinda sounds like an Emerson Commander with an Axis lock! Now that's a knife that I'd buy real quick.

Me too. The Commander is one of my favorite designs. I just haven't had much luck in the QC department with them. A Commander with an axis lock would kick all form of ass.

So, Dennis, what kind of things should I be looking for? The Commander is probably going to be my next folder that I add.

I don't want to get flamed by the usual suspects, but...

I have had three Commanders. The blade on all three would rub the liner when you opened it. If you tightened the pivot enough to stop the Blade rubbing the knife was almost impossible to open. One of them wouldn't lock up very good.

That really turned me off from them.

Of course that was two years ago. Hopefully the QC problems have been fixed, but I find myself hesitant to get any more.

I have heard that the good ones are great. Look in the Emerson forum. There is lots of info about QC.

I hear what you're saying, Dennis. I'm not into flaming Manufacturers and QC things are not new to me, I own a few Rekats and love them! While all of mine have locked up fine, the action was rough on each. One Sifu would rub the side a little, but a little adjustment fixed that one. I'll make sure I get the Commander from a good dealer just in case I need some help. I like the wave concept for deployment. It looks like nothing is faster for deploying except a fixed blade!
