Got home last night to have a package waiting from Yangdu. My Balance I picked up as part of the Halloween sale had arrived

Opened it up and there it was, essentially a smaller M43
Specs are 15" long and 21oz with a 5/16" spine by Rajkumar

Here it is next to my 18.5" full size 34oz M43

Love the feel and balance of it in the hand. It had a neutral weighting to it when in the hand

Also like the fact that the handle is narrower then my full sized on which was the only item I was not happy with on the full sized m43.

Also nice that it weights about a 1/3rd less then the full size one

Deff very happy that I picked it up and I can see it getting a lot of use when I go out hiking next summer. It will be a real toss up on if I take this one or the chiruwa siru I picked up. My ful, size M43 will not get nearly the use now unless I know I am going to have some chopping to do

Very nice. I might have to get one of those. I have an 18" and 21" M43 the smaller one would complete the set.

Thanks both of you. I would deff recommend picking one up if they come up again.

The 21" must be a beast to use considering how much my 18.5 weights

True not too bad though heavier than I would want since I am looking at using whatever I get right now for backpacking/canoe trips. Though who knows maybe in the future since I think I am now set for the trips with what I have even if I supply my friends on the trips as well

Very nice, can't imagine anything better than my M43. A smaller package with the same feel would be a nice camping khukuri.

Ya the M43 is one of my favorites as well as I prefer the smoth handles rather than the traditional ring. I was already thinking about ordering a smaller version when this one came up last week so I jumped all over it real quick. Only downside I could see with this one is that due to the balance it would most likely not chop as well as a normally weighted one as it is not front heavy like my full size one is

Great pix, thank you for sharing

Those two look good together! I've seen some WWII era M43's and most of them have thinner spines then the standard H.I. And it seems like some Khukri's have gotten thicker over the years. . . . That Balance is thinner, lighter and IMO More true to what an M43 should be. :) Me Likey!!

That is very cool. If Rajkumar would add 2 1/2" of blade, with only an equal number of ounces, and no more handle, he would have a very close to authentic M43 and likely a perfect khuk. They would sell all day long;) Thanks for the pics.

Agreed I would deff buy one like you are talking about jdk1

Would also think that it should be possible since the siru I have that is made by him with a 1/4" spine is 20" and 24oz

I'm just going to say this one more time to be sure it's heard:): HI MUST make this "Balance" with a blade about 2.5" longer. The handle should remain the same length, as well as the 5/16" spine, and not weigh more than 24 oz. It would be very close to the original Mk. II specs and be one incredible khukuri. I don't care if it didn't carry the "field" warranty, it would sell like hotcakes! OK, I might say it again at a later time:D Take care.

I agree with you. I have both the WWII model with a 16.5 inch overall length that weights around 24 ounces and an 18 inch M43. Both are gorgeous kukris. But the M43 fits my hand so much better because it has a large smooth handle without the bulge in the middle. It's quite heavy and from what I've gathered much more beefy than the typical M43 used during WWII. I think a special new model M43 the size of my WWII model with thicker smooth grips such as my M43 has and possibly with a one inch longer blade that would make it about 12 inches weighing in at around 24 oz would be just about ideal

RFOL, HOW DO YOU EXPECT ME TO STICK WITH MY "only buying one, a full size, m43" when YOU KEEP SHOWING me the "balance" models??!!??? . If "I" had a "Friend" interested in this smaller "balanced " model m43, what would it cost? I need to know so i can tell "Him" and "He" can start "saving"...???? RFOL :)

Just a thought.. A full size M43's weight, for backpacking, should not be too much an issue because I cannot see having to carry an hatchet or tomahawk with your "Kit"... Your not going to build a cabin or fell large trees and even if you are planning on bigger logs or whatever, you can get a "swensaw" which is a "take apart" saw which is excellent for felling even 6 inch tree's in its "smaller" version. Also, if you were thinking of a weapon, the m43 is going to probably "prevent" a wacko from even Thinking about testing your metal ! Also, a glock 20 with some 180 grain Hollow points and a clip of 200 solids for Bears might also persuade him that he is gonna have a very "BAD" day ... Hope I never would have to be "tested" on any of those counts

That little balance looks like what I have seen referred to as Aircrew m43's-don't know i that's the correct nomenclature but they look just like that. Very nice size indeed.
