I just got my blackjack grunt in today and I like the knife alot. I havent got to try it out or anything but the fit finish and feel of the knife are great and it is definately hair shaving sharp out of the box. Definately worth the 25 $ i paid shipped to the front door. Overall i'm sure this will be a great value long lasting user knife.

However I am less than pleased about the mickey mouse sheth that came with the knife. Which was not unexpected for the 25 $ price tag. What are some good value (inexpensive not cheap) production sheaths that will fit and match this knife?

I think any sheath you buy might actually be more expensive than the knife! You can always sew together a leather sheath if you wanted.

I have one, too. I got mine after the article in Tactical Knives. I am mostly a collector of discontinued knives so I had to get one. My only complaint was that the blade edge appeared chipped or rolled. Whatever, It is miniscule. A good sharpening would take care of that. Take your grunt and run. lol

There are plenty of folks on the forum here who will make a good leather or kydex sheath for a small price.

what exactly is a small price for a sheath. I really dont want to have more in the sheath then i do in the knife. and any ideas who i should talk to? or where i should post to find someone to make me one?

Unfortunately, I think you are going to have a hard time getting a quality sheath for less than what you paid for the knife.:(

In the real world, trying to find a sheath of any quality, either production or custom made for a price at or below $25 is going to be an exercise in futility. If you decide to make one yourself, the materials and tools necessary could easily exceed the $25 mark. If a sheath is to be used then it should be of sufficient quality and design to do the job intended, and there is the safety factor to consider. It is quite possible that a home made sheath could result in loss of the knife and/or inadvertent injury. Kydex would probably be less expensive than leather, but either choice will exceed your posted cost of the knife.

In answer to your question about price, I would imagine that the low water mark for an unlined leather pouch style sheath would be at minimum $35/$50. That is not indicative of my pricing, but some I have seen here and there.

Dude. Consider yourself very lucky for finding a big, sturdy, quality knife for 25 bucks. Maybe....MAYBE...you will find a quality sheath big enough to fit that Grunt for 25 bucks or under....but lightning rarely strikes twice.

I don't know how Blackjack can get away with that steel for the cheap price. With the sheath, you could, in theory, cut the strap off of it and sew your own onto it to place it where you want, our with more sewing knowledge you could make a whole new sheath. For the knife at that price, getting a sheath at all is icing on the cake.

I got two to play with a couple of weeks ago.....they both look like this now.

One was broken by throwing it so perhaps that can be seen as abuse. The other was broken chopping a bit of bamboo and that aint' abuse. They both broke in the same place, about 20mm inside the handle. Lucky for me they were free.

Wow... just wow. I think you may have just gotten REALLY unlucky and got 2 defective ones. I have seen one chop through a concrete with nothing more than a little edge damage. I can see it breaking on throwing, but I can't fathom how bamboo beats knife.

I was really impressed with mine for the money, I have used it to chopped a ton it has held up fine. When I see it I can't help but think of the old school Scrapyard Busse-kin.
