So today my Spyderco Civilian G-10 came in, and I must say I like it, it's very light weight and seems to fit into a pocket very nicely now, I did a little light cutting with it I cut one piece of paper and cut into a little piece of fabric but that was it besides feeling the blades sharpness. I'm not sure how fast these blades dull but i'm not excepting to use it at all for more then SD purposes now this light cutting would not dull the blade at all correct?

-Thanks

Congrats on your knife, good choice. You may want to invest in a sharpmaker next.

Paper can have silicates, chalk and clay in it as well as possibly other minerals from the manufacture. What is the purpose of cutting paper or even fabric to test sharpness? How much paper do you expect to defend against?

You have already been advised not to "test cut" with it if you want it for SD purposes but just leave it alone... I'm predicting that you will have bent the tip and dulled the edge in a very short time.

A little paper and fabric should be just fine.
I don't like knives which never get used to cut anything but air.

I'm not planning on doing anymore cutting with this blade. All I did was cut a little paper and fabric and that was it. I don't think it dulled the blade at all? Thanks

Your knife will be fine, I think the mssg is to not stress about it. If I recall correctly, your knife was designed for one kind of use only and it was not for general cutting tasks.

No offence, but if your stressing about a knife getting dulled from paper cutting, I doubt that your trained enough with a blade to use it safely in self defence. I could be wrong, but this post just screams of amateur.
