Got my Camillus EDC today

The nice UPS man brought my camillus EDC today, the first knife I've bought sight unseen over the internet.

I was disappointed with the edge. It was sharp enought to shave hair under pressure but was very course and uneven. It looked like it was quickly done on a belt sander or bench grinder. I eventually lanskeyed it down to an even edge; some places for example it would immediately raise a burr, a little bit along I'd have to grind forever to get to the edge. I did get it fixed up and now it pops hair nicely.

Another thing I'm concerned about is the framelock. It barely engages. I understand how they are made to wear in, much like the lock on a double shotgun, but if I don't snap the knife open-just thumb it open-sometimes it doesn't even engage. You think I should disassemble it and stone the blade or frame a little?

Lockup shouldn't be like that. I think it needs to go back to Camillus. We have a camillus forum here where you may be able to get some help from Will or someone else.

Once its fixed, you'll have a great little folder. I have had one for awhile now and it is the user I never get rid of. Great little folder.

They are great, but I couldn't agree more about the edge. Both of the EDCs I got had rough, uneven, dull edges. It took a lot of work to thin them out and even them up, way more than it should have. One thing about the lock is that Camillus has excellent customer service. They'll take care of you.

Man I really don't want to send it away for something I feel I could do with a stone and 5 minutes. If it does come apart easily.

Does the plastic pivot washers need any special care, like lubes to avoid.

Now I'm pissed. I took the pocket clip off which stripped 2 of the screws. I was very careful, but just removing them seemed to strip them, like they were loctited in instead of properly tapped. Now I have a perfectly useless knife.

Any suggestions? JB weld:barf:

*panics*

I had the same problems with the Camillus EDC. Stripped the screws just trying to adjust things, and then the pivot screw just straight-up disintergrated.

Luckily, my dealer took it back at cost.

It was my worst knife experience.

(Not to mention that the ergonomics s*cked, in my wife and I's opinions).

I doubt that I'll buy from Camillus again, unless I see some rave reviews from the forums. And then, probably only a fixed blade.

My dealer was good enough to take mine back, and give me credit for a kershaw model.

Good Luck

I have 3 EDC's and other than being too small, I have had no problems with them.I have not tried to take them apart. Locks engage perfectly well on mine. Edges are reasonably ok, but not up to my standards. That didn't take much to fix though.

My first EDC was a bit of a lemon but Camiluss's service was excellent. They replaced it no questions asked and the new one is excellent in every way. I don't use it all that much but do clip it on from time to time. It makes a great cheapeskates gentlemans knife.

I wouldn't send it back to Camillus if I were you. Yeah, there customer service is great, but your still looking at 4-8 weeks if not more. You just bought this knife from a dealer correct?? I would return it to the dealer for a replacement. You shouldn't have to deal with the manufacturer when the knife is brand new:rolleyes:

I ended up putting the screws in the best I could with red loctite, and then giving it a drop of CA. I am not happy but it seems to be holding together for now. The lock works ok now that I have worked the knife at least 500 times.

Trains, in another thread my comments may have encouraged you to go ahead and take your EDC apart and I'm sorry it turned out so badly for you. I hope you give Camillus a chance to make it right, I think they would.

As I posted in another thread I ordered a camillus and my edge came poorly ground it stil shaved but it was an obvious blem.
