Just got it in the mail today. It's OK..just ok.I guess I was expecting too much from an Emerson. It's my first one & probably my last. The blade is razor sharp out of the box.The handle is very comfortable. It just doesn't seem really solid like I thought it would be.I don't think it's worth $160+.My AL Mar SERE 2000 is a better knife all around & cheaper too.The CQC-15 is worth $100 at the most.My ZT0200 was also less money & about as SOLID as a knife can be.I would trust my life with the 0200.Unfourtunately the CQC-15 is going to be assigned to household chores, cause that's about all I'd trust it with.Sorry if I've offended anyone with this post.I'm just a little dissapointed.

One thing you're paying for is the particularly good CS, and the fact that it's made 100% in the US. That AMK S2k isn't; I don't know enough about the Kershaw but it's possible it also is.

EKI is all about handle ergos... the funky asymmetrical edge isn't for everyone, and I know for certain the 0.050" liners are not for me at all.

EKI also has unusually fast and responsive CS. I've had locking liners replaced in a few weeks total turnaround time. (Now the question of whether a real knife would require the locking liner to be replaced is a WHOLE 'nother story...)

But the handle ergos... my goodness. Nothing else on the market quite like them.

I'll give you $100 for it! :D

I'm not saying it's a bad knife. It's just not as good as I was expecting. After reading all the the hype & the way people go on & on about emersons in general,I was expecting a knife at least as tough as a sere 2000.About the handle ergos, yeah they're great, but no better than the sere 2000,zt0200 or even the junkyard dog II.I really think Kershaw's got the handle idea down pat.Kershaw's are made in the US(most) & their products are reasonably priced.

Haha, yea, it would be nice to see 0.080" liners at least stock on the EKIs, especially given the price, I agree.

Interesting thread. I own both knives you mention the CQC15 and the SERE2000. I would say the 15 definitely impresses me as a tougher knife. My SERE is a little smoother to open and the edge finish in the handles is a little smoother but I would not say the Sere strikes me as tougher.

Other than expectations of something diffeent what is it avout the Emerson that concerns you?

You mentioned that you didn't think it was worth $160+. Didn't you get yours for $129 with "free" shipping?

Yes I did get it for $129 & it was worth it.I'm just glad I didn't pay full retail for it.My first post was a little harsh. The 15 is growing on me.I used it a little today on some cardboard, about 180-200 cuts(lost count) & the blade is still shaving sharp.Maybe I was a little hasty writing poorly about the 15 before I used it,like someone else mentioned earlier. It's a pretty tough knife.Probably AS tough as the sere2000,but no where near the zt0200.I stand by my statement that it's over priced,as are most emersons.

Id say my Sere 2K (mini) is defo. better finished than the EKIs. The scales are totally flush with the liners and back spacer, it has more rounded edges to the G-10 and the edge of the steel liners are sanded smoothe rather than left rough like the Ti on my Emersons.
But the knives are actually verry similar in materials and build. I think its hard to say one is tougher than the other, apart from the small detailes to the fit and finish there is probably not much between them at the end of the day.
That being said i have been disapointed with a couple of EKIs but then iv been totally beside my self with others. :)

"it's over priced,as are most emersons"

This being the first emerson I own.It wouldn't be fair to comment on other ones like I just did(sorry)

I agree on the similarities between the two.As far as fit & finish go,the 2000's got it beat.

I love my Emersons but I would never pay full retail price for an Emerson or any other knife. I think retail pricing is over-valued anyway with most companies to make us think we are getting more than we really are. This is done with automobiles, jewelry, clothing, and pretty much everything we buy. We can definitely be thankful that the internet retail business has done away with having to pay retail pricing for anything these days.

If this is your first Emerson then it might take a while to get used to. Emersons are made different than most folders and when you first use it the "left handed bias" edge isn't exactly what you expect. It's tough to compare the construction to other manufacturers but I know many people that have Emersons that have been used very hard for several years.

Greetings.
This is one of those areas where I don't know if I'm crossing a line or not. If I am, it's unintentional.

JTR, did you purchase your knife online? Can you share the site? I'm interested in buying Emerson, but I'd like to get a good deal too.

I got it off ebay.

Well after having & using my CQC15 for about a week now. After taking it apart, oiling it & putting everything back together nice & tight.I really like it.There was a little blade play when I first opened it.Not anymore. This knife was obviously used, then sold on ebay as brand new.:mad:I really hate when a$$heads lie to you & think they'll get away with it.Like I'm some punk kid, that doesn't know anything about knives.Well I ruined this one's 100% pos.feedback.I'm sorry if my first post steered people away from emersons.THE CQC-15 IS A GREAT KNIFE:thumbup:

P.S. It's still overpriced IMO

When I took it apart, there was debris inside,& the pocket clip had some wear marks. It wasn't beat to hell, but it wasn't brand new either.
