I would love to have one with a satin finish. What an awesome design.

Gundy,
You have the largest Commander collection I have seen, are you saying that you actually prefer the 8??!?!? This is ground-breaking news!!!!;) :p :D

JM, you made me think about that question (I am on the back foot!)...let me put it this way, I just dragged the 8 out of my pocket to ask myself the same question...

never thought I would say this, but YES. I like the 8 more.

after carrying the thing for a week, i like my CQC8 better than my SOCFK, which is saying something, the SOCFK and MT SOCOM elite are (were) my 2 fav productions, now the CQC8 is #1 or a close 2.

i just wish it was waved, my only ctiticism, imho all EKI's should be waved, BUT they wanted it to look a lot like the '8' customs, so wadda ya do?? no wave.....

a GREAT knife, too bad they wont ever be a std prod item (i have heard anyway)i bet they would really sell..........and throw in some green G10, wow, i would have 2 or 3 of the things.

was comparing the CQC8 and BM AFCK, handle profiles are very similar, but the blade arcs up on the 8, and down on the AFCK, other than that the profiles are pretty similar imho.

nope, didnt know that, all the 8's ive seen arent waved, but that doesnt mean anything, would be a cool idea imho if they all were.....

I really like the EKI 8 and have been carrying it alot.I even like the Surefire C2 a very good torch. But I got a ECK a week ago and it really has my attention. Awesome weapon. Have a good one.

Congrats, thats an awesome production folder...thats gonna be another Emerson classic.

Just to echo what Sniper308 said...there are indeed several illusive waved custom CQC8s. I know of at least 5 that come to mind.

(Just as an aside for those not familiar...Sniper308...is one of the hardcore Emerson custom collectors, and has the finest collection of super rare Pre-tac Emerson customs.....and YES....he does has a waved custom CQC8....dang bastid;) )

A WAVED CQC8 production would be an instant winner, instant classic along side the satin 98 Commander.

:)

Hilton. You've just too kind! I've already got you taken care of in the will!

Hiltons correct with the estimate of approx 5 waved 8's out there. Two of them are prototypes belonging to the same individual and there are at least three other custom 8's with the wave. The wave on the 8 is not quite the same as on the productions, as it it not quite as pronounced, and definately not as pointed as most of the productions.

my EKI CQC8 is chisel grind, like my commander is (was), w/the curved blade, kinda hard to sharpen, but i got mine SHARP, used my spyderco ceramic ultra fine and some time, but its razor sharp now, like all my emersons.........

great knives, EKI and micro tech rule the roost, imho, production knives just dont get any better, imho.

A couple of points . . . as I see it anyway.

When I first saw pictures of the CQC8, I wasn't that impressed. So underwhelmed in fact that I didn't order one when I had the chance.

Now that I've gotten to know a little more about knives in general and had the chance to fondle several examples, both custom and production, I personally think the CQC8 is tied with the Commander and the CQC6 as Ernie's finest designs.

The Production CQC8 is "V" ground with a final chisel sharpening grind, ala the production Commander or CQC7A

Most Custom CQC8s are completely Chisel ground, like the CQC7B as an example. However, there have been a few "V" ground examples pop up.

Lastly.

I really have to agree with Hilton.

A WAVED CQC8 production would be an instant winner, instant classic along side the satin 98 Commander

IF EKI produced a Waved CQC8, it would be an true classic Emerson.

Better yet . . . if they produced a limited run, real Satin finish, Chisel ground, Waved, 98 formula body (thick scales/liners) CQC8 "ECA" piece for 2003 . . .

I gotta tell ya, I think that knife would be the must have knife of the production line.

A 200 piece run would sell out before days end. Hell, I'd have to buy three!!
