Hello everyone!
I got last week my 2nd hand Delica 4 for roughly half of the price of regular in my country. Quite a steal since that had barely been used. Blade was pristine and so were handles.
Blade though had some blade play vertical and laterial. Since blade wasn't smooth opener like my Caly 3, I decided to open the knife. My surprise was great when torx holding the lock right behind pivot didn't want to open in Torx 6 but I had to use Torx 7.
Thanks to great pictorial how to disassemble Delica 4 in Spyderco forums I followed the insturctions of cleansing everything and applying WD-40. Result were quite stunning. My Delica 4 became smooth opener and no blade play. At first I thought there were still marginal lateral but then I noticed way I was holding was pressing lock bit. So in new test where I holded side, no blade play.
I like Delica 4. I don't mind saber grind really, though I admit my Caly 3 is better slicer. However FRN does feel surprisingly good and really grippy. All I am worried that odd sized torx and I probably going to buy Delica 4 inner part kit with spare screws... Although there aren't that many available in here... And I ran into FFG Delica 4 limited edition and I am drooling over them and I have to resist not to buy one. I simply cannot afford, though I would love to have green or blue FRN FFG Delica 4.
I really like Delica 4. Its surprisingly good contender for my Caly 3 and I've taken Delica 4 for my EDC rotation, which Caly 3 has dominated pretty well.
Little bit maitenancing and tinkering you can get rid of blade play and into form of really nice knife. Both Caly 3 and Delica 4 which I got 2nd hand locally did had blade play ( Caly 3 only vertical ). So owning good torx series is must for person who is as anal for blade play as I am.
Thank you Sal and Spyderco for awesome knives. Delica 4 is really great design. And now that FFG version's are available, they are pretty close to perfection, though personally regular Delica 4 is superb knife for my purpouse.
