Got my 2000 HC Commander lastnight from Bandit...the clip side edge now matches the other side perfectly with the "reinforced" tip, only now each side is at 20 degrees. You don't even notice any loss of blade width, which I expected, from the grinding...looks like it came from factory. Out of the box, it locked up just a hair over 1/2 way, and had light blade play, so I took it down, rinsed everything with 409, dried, and rebuilt using locktite on every screw. Now locks up flush with edge of tang, just a hair over, and after screwing with the pivot screw for an hour, and using a lot of locktite, no blade play either. This baby really was picky about it's sweet spot. Also, no liner rub!!!

...and trust me, this pivot screw won't budge any more...EVER.

I really like the HC finish...although I I hate blade coatings.

Since it's there, does it provide any corrosion resistance?

I've got the "wave" opening down, but refrain from doing so, cause I'm afraid of premature lock wear, though no matter how hard it's opened, it still locks up in it's same place.

Well, just thought I'd let ya know...with a little attention, my baby is almost perfect. Maybe a little tinkering with the Emersons I've seen in the past would have fixed them as well.

Jackyl,
Today's industrial hard chrome is a fantastic treatment for hard use items. Corrosion resistance second to none! There are a whole lot MORE reasons to use this finish on handguns, but the protective qualities are thought of first. I am a saltwater fisherman, and chose a chromed '7 for my marine knife (I would cry if I dropped my '6 overboard.)

Did your blade receive new chrome after the re-grind? If not, the ground surfaces as well as the secondary bevel need wiped down weekly.....more often if you are in a seashore type environment or carry next to your body. I would wipe it down at least weekly, in any case.

I have had a Benchmade CQC-7 for years....since they first came out. Generally considered to be a POS as far as construction. It has endured hard openings for as long, without ANY problems with blade play or lockup. I really don't think you can hurt your knife with wave opening. You seem to have the lockup where you want it, and can easily adjust if nessesary. Remember that a little drop of solvent in the right place will loosen any loctite for a re-build. I like to be able to dis-assemble my knives for maintenence, and even the 'POS' BM '7 is none the worse from it.

Good luck with it......Joe
