I got one my buddie got one and my Brother-in-law got one....

I got the handle like the one on the crash axe (cord and micarta)
my buddie got the cord wrapped
my brother-in-law the all micarta

We love them (me and my buddie I mailed my Briother-in-law his yesterday)great feal and will be putting them through the paces in a few days....we have done a few things with them...wood, cardboard boxes a kevlar vest and they are smooth.....more to come...CORT

I am also waiting on one with an all micarta handle. What are your observations of the pros/cons of the various types of handles? Do you like the overall balance and weight of the hawk? I was initially concerned about the 2 lbs. being too heavy, but went ahead and ordered one anyway. As long as the balance is right on, then the 2 lbs. shouldn't be a problem.

Cord Wraped = thin
Micarta = like a large knife
micarta = like a large knife with good grip

all the handle dont seem to be slick even when wet

the 2lbs is very managable and its very well balanced....but im 6'4" and big.....

:D

Thanks for the info you have provided Cort. I am eagerly awaiting more! I'm sure I don't need to tell you to have fun with your hawk :)

Thanks for the info. I didn't think that the 2lbs would be a problem. I can't wait to get mine.

a lot stiffer...almost zero vibration when it come in contact with a hard substance....

Hey Cort, I think a picture of your 'hawks is up on Ryan's website (there is a pic of 3 hawks like you describe in the "recent projects" section). I just received my engraved micarta/cord wrapped Talon...but I am considering sending back to have the checkering put on it that I originally ordered. Ryan thought it might be too agressive (ate up his hands), but since I don't plan to throw this paticular 'hawk, I want all the grip I can get...

Here's mine (before the name engraving):

I was checking out Ryan;s site yesterday. To see all of those Eagle Talons in a big bunch... well..... Sniff.. it can make a grown man cry! What an amazing bunch of hawks.

Yes...the one that says "Semper Fi" went to my buddy...mine is on the left and my brother-in-laws is the middle one......I LOVE my hawk...and not a single person that has handaled it has thought it a waste of money even non-knife people....CORT

I am really interested in how this hawk does at "camp" chores. brian Jones wrote a lot on how well the spike on the ATC Roger's Rangers hawk works at bushcraft, and I wonder how well the spiek on this hawk does at bushcraft. Not just the spike, but the hawk head/bit too. I'm wondering if this is more of a CQB tool than a utility piece. I know VERY LITTLE about hawks and such, so these are just the questions I have and I am not guessing as to their answers. Thats what I have you guys who have hawks for!

Well, it's been a couple of days and I'm chomping at the bit for more info on how you studs ;) like you're Talons:D :D

I've exchanged a few e-mails with Ryan since I've first found out about the Eagle Talon and am chomping at the bit to order one. However Ryan's convinced me to wat just a tad longer as he's working on getting the Defensor Fortis crest laser engraved on the hawk (cool, COOL, did I say seriously KOOL!!!!!)

drool drool drool drool...............

Shrike,

Are you SERIOUS??

Our Flash, on a 'hawk??

Oh man oh man...I'm starting to get all misty-eyed!

Have you heard about the 820th useing 'em, or seen the pictures on Ryan's site? I'd like to hear how they held up in the field under "Cop Use" (aka abuse)....

Straight from the man himself (Ryan Johnson) This is a couple of cut's & pasteies from a e-mail I recieved:D :D

Glad you liked the photo (the one's on his web page showing the SF troops and Hawks over there), that was John and Sean from the 820th. John has been a lot of help, and one of the main reasons this stuff ever got off the ground.

I have been killing myself trying to streamline the shop and our process so that I can get hawks out sooner. It won't be too long...a military guy can order one and it will ship same day, and civilian less than a couple of weeks

The first batch of new Talons will be finishing up next week, and the first of the batch goes out to a group out of Ft. Lewis.

I can engrave Defensor Fortis on it ( question I asked ) (I have that flash on my car, incidentally ) and I may soon be able to have that flash laser engraved on the handle. ( I've been working on that for John)

Can you say drool, drool slober lick slurp

Mmmmm..tempting, oh so tempting...

As I said - I want to hear tales of this hawk. Where's the 820th guys at?? I need to hear how it stood up against Cop Use (as I've said - abuse)!

Phil
